I've heard by freemail that SLC will never turn into "Dallas" show, the community will circle the wagons and keep everything hush-hushed. Of course, this is now a national case and media cannot be stopped from investigating. I wish these SLC people would put Elizabeth first, wagon-circling second and get on with this case.

I have had a child abducted. Teenaged girl. And fortunately returned within 12 hours. Not a good 12 hours for either of us.

I'm not attacking so you don't need to defend. One of the points I do want to make is that this particular case is, from perspective of miles away from SLC, Mormons, etc., being handled in a most peculiar way. It seems sometimes that coverup is more important than finding the girl.

Relatives and police are saying and doing very strange things. Uncle Tom on Larry King going on about "everyone has issues," instead of begging for perp to release Liz, etc etc....AS IF he's defending the perp....or defending the darkest, most evil aspect of this entire case....THEREFORE, sounds to me AS BAD AS someone defending NAMBLA. Please! Don't take everything so literally.

National Enquirer article said Ed was planning to move the family to a "ski cabin." I thought that sounded pretty strange and speculated that IF they were going to a cabin, THEN it would be at a ski resort, implying that it would be a large, fancy, and expensive cabin....perhaps a resort Ed is developing, hopefully for a megaprofit. THUS defining in my mind another area to investigate....IF Ed is being blackmailed, THEN, who could be doing it? WHAT IF he had some partners in large ventures who were hitting him in the FIGURATIVE kneecaps about debts, etc? MIGHT they have taken the girl?

You're going to get really exhausted if you feel you have to defend the Mormon Church, Mormons, and SLC in general from every idea, concept, speculation, theory, posted here. Those of us who have posted from the beginning are following the case because we want Liz to be found alive and well. Relax, we're not attacking the Mormon lifestyle. I have dozens of Mormons in my family, fine people, bishops, great kids, lots of money...but the ONE kid in the clan who went wrong went so incredibly wrong she belongs on Jerry Springer.

The local news is reporting that search dogs have made a hit on South Mountain in SLC. Actually three positive hits. The police search dogs will be searching the area at first light tomorrow morning, they don't want to disturb any potential evidence. I'm praying for the Smart family, and for Elizabeth. I think Edmunds is involved and here is my theory.
If Elizabeth did have some obsessed acquaintance that has "close" ties to elizabeth or is a family member then why did he just so happen to pick the exact week to abduct/rape Elizabeth that coincides exactly with the week that this drifter showed up and started tons of bizarre/typical weirdo behavior all over the Smart's town? Way too much of a coincidence IMO.

This is what I think happened. Edmunds the transient goes from neighborhood to neighborhood and decides to crash in this neighborhood for whatever reason. During the day he cruises around town for food/milk and maybe money stealing opportunites. Today his ex-girlfriend on the news said he had a drug problem. He gets the itch for some drugs, but doesn't have much money to obtain any. Low and behold one of the more lavish homes he just so happened to cruise by in his Saturn has their garage wide open. He sneaks in and hides in the basement or somewhere in there. The Smarts leave to do whatever and close the garage. He goes into the house looking for expensive things to pawn while everyone is gone or waits til they go to sleep to look around. While looking in the house for food or money he sees pictures of the beautiful Elizabeth all over the place. She is just too pretty to pass up. He figures out where the girls bedroom is and waits. Transients don't have too many girlfriend options and this may have been some sexual frustration outlet.

He goes in and takes Elizabeth but uh oh? What happens if they put on the home alarm system and it goes off when he tries to open the door to leave with elizabeth? The garage is now closed. Luckily the smarts left a vertical window on the first floor open so all he has to do is cut it from the INSIDE and escape with Elizabeth.

On msnbc or fox a man mentioned that abductors or killers a lot of times are so consumed with guilt that they typically abuse alcohol or drugs in huge amounts after doing something very very bad. He brought up the Richard Speck Case. The guy who murdered all those nurses in Chicago I think. How did he get caught? He was found in a hospital of a DRUG OVERDOSE right after the mass killings.

If Edmunds did it then the girl died probably right after he raped her. He didn't have a home to lock her up or keep her hancuffed alive for a week of sexual slavery. Some abductors keep victims alive for sex/torture purposes until it becomes too risky. He also showed up at the vigil, so where could he keep elizabeth alive? I don't think he would risk being spotted with a missing girl whose face is plastered everywhere and the police are looking for, so she is dead if he is involved.

Give him a lie detector test and if he is involved he should fail worse than O.J. Especially if he has this guilt ridden drug overdose and/or suicide attempt.

Gruesome, but makes sense. Your whole scenario makes pretty good sense. But why is everyone talking about a suspect that the family knows? They would not know a drifter.

Exactly, PoisedWoman. As intent as police have been in their desire to capture and question Edmunds, they still refuse to 1) label Edmunds a suspect, and 2) release polygraph results of Smart brothers.

We are following this case with the hope that Elizabeth will return safe and sound. It terrifies me to the bone to think that a stranger could enter a home in the middle of the night and abduct a child. Until police give me a reason to think otherwise, I'm pinning my hopes on a family member's involvement.... that scenario, I believe, would have a much better outcome.

Every time I see Elizabeth's father, it breaks my heart. He is a broken man. His face shows more pain than I have ever seen. Elizabeth's mother wasn too sick to appear in public yesterday. The family's Bishop has been cooperating with the police and in fact reported the presence of the suspect at an vigil event. I cannot understand for the life of me why people are criticizing this family. They are beautiful people. The only criticism I could MAYBE understand is that their daughter was too sweet and trusting.

I agree with you, but this seems to be the norm when the police can't come up with something right away.Then the armchair quarterbacking begins. Susan Smith did kill her babies and is now in prison but now when a child is kidnapped or murdered all these people start coming out of the woodwork.
