Possible scenario - Edmonds, or someone else, was blackmailing the Smarts about
the gay business, they got sick of paying, saw a kidnapping/ransom as the next
step.

Could be. And maybe the Smarts ran out of money. NE story says Smarts were about to sell their large home and move the entire family into a small ski cabin in the mountains.

You base somone's ability to find a kidnapped girl on how correct his spelling is?

I am speaking out in favor of precision. One word means one thing, the other word means something else.

Ooh, I forgot that item. Nice catch.

For my part, I'll try not to drop pronouns next time I post a theory.

That I could accept.

uh...well...if you LIVE in SLC and the girl you have SEEN and who is obsessing your dreams also lives there, you abduct her THERE, for that is where she IS!

Same would be true of Manti.

And I suspect that was because he was worrying even more about a family scandal, destroying their rep and business in SLC, than about the daughter who really IS missing and MAY WELL be dead, but he/they may have even worse problems than that.

I never correct another poster's spelling when I think his fingers have just mismoved on the keyboard.

If, on the other hand, he/she has shown that he/she actually does not know how to spell the word, and it is giving rise to confusion and hilarity, I must correct it.

HEROIN is a drug, a derivative of the opium poppy purified by a process involving certain strong chemicals and acids.

HEROINE is a female hero, especially one who is the star of a long and involved story of some kind.

Educated speakers in the Eastern United States usually pronounce both of these words just the same, HEHR-oh-inn.

In parts of Midwest and West and South, the lady hero can sometimes be heard as he-roh-EEN!

PS (Yes, Virginia, you are not totally exempt from that. It is true.)

I don't buy all the runwaway theories because if they were true to the extent that Elizabeth had a reason to run away, she would not have left her sister behind. She would have brought here sister with her and had an 8 hour head start instead of a 2 hour head start.

If you are from SLC and have always lived there, and have a million-dollar home and business there, and six children for whom to live elsewhere would be unthinkable, and have held high positions in the LDS church, and hold a lot of priesthood in said church...ie a lot of power...

I could think of much worse that that, but in fact I do not have to, for the NE already has.

You obviously don't have children of your own.

This guy lives in his car. Where does he get the money for drugs?

Well, the "drug" in question is Tylenol, or some variant thereof, so he wouldn't need much money, or any money at all if he was proficient at shoving a bottle of them under his coat at the local Wal-Mart (as the average common criminal like him would likely be). He's not in the hospital for a "drug overdose" as we would usually interpret it; he's there because he took too many over-the-counter headache pills and it shut down his liver. Acetaminophen is very VERY nasty stuff in high enough doses. Two, five, even ten 500 mg pills at one time would probably be okay (though I personally wouldn't want to try ten) ... but 15, 20 or more all at once? You can kiss your liver goodbye.

And you're obviously not a high-ranking Mormon family who's been bankrupted by blackmail a family gay sex ring. What's your point?

But a liver condition this serious in a 26-year-old male, would automatically lead to suspicions that he was a promiscuous homosexual, for Hepatitis C (and other forms too) are like aids, tied to that lifestyle and culture.

Not if they had just ingested half a bottle of Tylenol, it wouldn't. The healthiest man alive would risk ending up on a transplant waiting list within hours.

She's a doll. And her mother is absolutely beside herself. I can't even imagine the pain....Prayer is about all they have to go on right now, and yours will be very much appreciated. God bless you.

But having a daughter kidnapped at gunpoint, surely if this was the plan, they should have realized that everything and everyone would come under scrutiny. If the stories are true (and I am not conceding they are), they bought themselves 2 weeks of protection. I don't buy it.

Alexis Patterson is probably a victim of one of her relatives. Like the two little girls in Detroit who vanished last year her family has been extremely uncooperative and can't seem to get their story straight.

May I suggest "apostate".
