Questions Concerning the Reliability of AP News Agency Report

On June 10, 2002 the AP news agency carried a report of the following event in Gaza, by Adel Hana:

The AP news agency report ignores two very important facts:
" the two operatives killed were part of the Palestine Islamic Jihad terror organization;
" the two operatives were on a mission to carry out a massive murderous terror attack in the Dugit settlement. _________________________________________________________

These facts were known to the Palestinian public a day before the funeral and before publication of the report by the AP news agency. The Islamic Jihad terror organization had, on June 8th, publicized the following official announcement:

"Announcement by the Islamic Jihad regarding the claim of responsibility for the penetration into the Dugit settlement in the Gaza Strip.

Military announcement by the Jerusalem Battalions:

We, the Jerusalem Battalions, the military wing of the Palestine Islamic Jihad, present two heroic Jihad warriors before our people and our (Islamic) nation:

The heroic Muhamad Altar, (32) from Shajaiya in the Gaza Strip and the heroic martyr, Ahed Ali al-Mbashir, (20) from the Shati refugee camp in the Gaza Strip, who ascended to heaven following a shooting encounter with forces of the Zionist Navy on Saturday morning near the Zionist settlement of Dugit in the northern Gaza Strip.

The two Jihad warriors were on a mission to infiltrate the Zionist settlement via sea. Upon arrival at the seashore, they were spotted by a Zionist maritime patrol. The two Jihad warriors were killed in the encounter. The Jerusalem Battalions will continue walking the road of Jihad, sacrifice and suicide."

I just wonder exactly why the Dems wanted AP to spin the story this way.
