FIREFIGHTER INJURED AT GROUND ZERO ANNOUNCES RUN FOR CONGRESS

(Northport, Long Island-AP) -- A New York City firefighter who was injured during the search at ground zero says he's running for Congress on Long Island.

Joe Finley is seeking the Republican nomination for New York's Second Congressional district -- in Suffolk and Nassau counties. He announced his candidacy yesterday at his firehouse at 29th Street and 2nd Avenue in Manhttan.

Finley, a resident of Northport, Long Island suffered asthma symptoms after spending several days searching for survivors after the attack on the World Trade Center.

He would be challenging incumbent Democratic congressman Steve Israel.

I hope others who worked resue and recovery after 9/11 follow his lead. I think it's pretty safe to say that this seat was his for the asking.

This is great news! I will keep an eye out on this campaign as its my district!! Any word yet on how to volunteer for the Finley campaign???? I would work my butt off to get rid of Israel.

Leave it to a demrat to use 9-11 for a campaign advantage. Remember the lady who won a Rep. seat in the same area because her husband was murdered and her son was badly hurt in the LIRR massacre?

Excellent!!! Northport is a lovely village on the north shore of Long Island. Used to stroll there in the evenings, pick up some homemade ice cream and walk along the pier.

Finley should be perceived as a "hero" and have an easy trip to the Congress. Go Finley!!
