"I have to ask: Why is Mr. Ashcroft, a committed Christian, using his official capacity to celebrate sin?" Because it's PC, and shows tolerance. (Barf!)
"After all the work we did to stand up to the liberal mudslinging during Ashcroft's confirmation fight, this is what we get?" Knight said.
This is funny, like there's honor and loyalty among politicians.
OK, die-hard Bush/Ashcroft supporters, this is the AG you defend when he shreads the Constitution on a daily basis.

career employees who have contributed to fair treatment for gay, lesbian and bisexual people
What about fair treatment for practitioners of inter-generational sex, and practiitioners of inter-species sex? See. This really is a conservative administration. They haven't advocated these important elements of the the liberal agenda --yet. :-(

Would you prefer a country where we are told that we can't speak to some people?

It's amazing the Justice Department can find time for this stuff. After all, it must be time consuming seeking injunctions to stop prolife demonstrators from praying in front of abortion mills.

Huh? I think you misunderstand, this was posted to show that Ashcroft isn't the self-rightious person he puts himself forward as. That and to see how the 'Bush/Ashcroft can do no wrong' crowd.
I'm still trying to figure out how to post that cartoon on your deleted thread onto this one.

Attorney General John Ashcroft on Thursday for allowing Deputy Attorney General Larry Thompson to speak to a group of Justice Department employees at their annual Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual Pride program What did Ashcroft know and when did he know it?
To: Pern
I think I understand but who knows for sure. I was out late the last 2 nights and I'm a little hazy and late for work.

Its a hard sell to put consensual sex acts between two adults in the same boat "legally" as sex with kids and sex with animals which cannot consent.
When it comes down to it, Ashcrofts responsibility is to the law as is, not his own personal, conservative group okayed, version. But if your not looking at it from a legal standpoint, then perhaps your looking at it from a Christian standpoint. In that case, I believe you would be in error in trying to muzzle and cast into dark alley ways any citizen based on his sexual preference. And if your not coming from a Christian standpoint, you got no rock to stand on other than your own opinion on the matter, which don't make policy.
My issue with it is why on earth they would allow a meeting, whose sole basis is the celebration of any specific sexual preference in a governmental building. You can bet the hetrosexual mixer would be shot down before you could say balance or tolerance. It shouldn't have been held in a governmental building, period, its a null issue whether or not ashcroft okay his deputy attorney general to speak to a group of people who work with him.
