Saddam gives security, Baath party power to kill opponents
Middle East News Online ^ | June 20 2002 | Iraq Press (London)

has ordered his security services and members of his ruling Baath party to shoot and kill anyone suspected of planning "hostile action" against his government.

Most party members, who according to official statistics number about one million, carry guns and mount armed patrols in residential neighborhoods throughout the country.

But their loyalty is not certain as many of them pointed their guns at Saddam's troops during uprisings that took place shortly after the 1991 Gulf War over Kuwait.

A source refusing to be named told Iraq Press that Saddam's order was issued recently and has been conveyed to the security services and party branches across the country.

He said Saddam has taken all the precautionary measures to prevent a repetition of the post-Gulf War uprising, which saw the collapse of his administration in 14 out of Iraq's 18 provinces.

Saddam has been holding regular meetings with his Baath party leaders, army commanders and intelligence and security officers on how to preserve his grip on power if the United States mounts a military attack to change his regime.

"Shoot and kill at random once you sense the slightest smell of dissent," the source said of the latest instructions.

Saddam has also pledged to protect army, security or party personnel killing dissenters from prosecution. The source said Iraqi courts are under instructions to overlook such incidents.

The instructions come at a time Saddam has substantially increased his bonuses to associates. Travelers say Saddam has recently given huge amounts of money, cars and plots of land to senior officers in the armed forces and the Baath party.

The Mother of all losers, Saddam Hussein

Fire at will is it. Seems a civil war is about to break out in old Mesopotamia.

Some of them. Others he arrests and has tortured. Then there are those who are tortured for years, rehabilitated, and restored to power and uncertain glory. Kindda makes you nostalgic for the Middle Ages.

The press leaks are having the desired effect.

You bet they are.

Saddam sees the handwriting on the wall and is doing exactly as we had hoped: he's starting to kill people.

What's going to happen next is when we start funneling disinformation to Saddam about his senior officers. See, the Israelis know who the loyal officers are and who the dissidents are. So, we take that information and give some sucker in the Mukhabarat a list, "stolen" from the Evil Zionists, of who in the General Staff is disloyal.

And Saddam will start killing all these treasonous, disloyal Generals.

Except for one thing: the list will be made up of Saddam's most loyal guys. When they're killed off, all Saddam will have left around him is an Officer Corps filled with Coup Plotters.

I would just hate to be one of his loyalist Generals....

"General, we go back together a long way. Now, do you know why I called you in here alone?"

Be Seeing You,

Chris
