LA CROSSE, Wis. -- Ten Commandments lawn signs are flying off the shelves in a show of support for keeping a Ten Commandments monument in a city park, a religious leader said.
David Twite, executive director of Crossfire Ministries, a non-denominational youth ministry, has been handing out the signs for nearly two weeks. He said Wednesday he can't keep up with demand.

God Bless Y'all in La Crosse...

My old hometown. There is an atheist from Madison named Anne Gaylor whose whole life consists of being shocked at religious symbols in public areas. The mayor, who graduated one year before me at the same high school (Catholic no less), was ready to cave from day one. My question is if these freedon from religon types are successful in banning all references to religion in public areas, what is to stop them from getting the In God We Trust symbol banned from our money? Christmas decorations?

Let's face it..those objecting to the 10 Commandments on city property wouldn't do so if they didn't first have a problem with the 10 Commandments in the first place, period.
So the fact they will now have to see the 10 Commandments in more places, rather than less is just wonderful.

People like that used to tick me off.
Now I am more amused by them.
If they are atheists, from what philosophy comes the idea that one should
be shocked (or bothered or concerned with) mere words that their fellow citizens
find comfort in reverencing?
Most atheists don't have a clue...making a big to-do over something like the Ten Commandments
just gives power to them and other religious observances.
If this lady is bothered by that, she better stay out of the US Supreme Court
(stone carving of The Ten Commandments) and out of National (Veteran) Cemetaries
with all those repulsive (to her) crosses and Stars of David.

Way to go LaCrosse! Take those religious monuments off public land and give them a new and better home on your own! This way, they get more exposure and more TLC than they would being tucked away in a corner of some out-of-the-way park, and the burden on the taxpayers is lessened. What a brillant idea!

If a temporary religious display is put up at no cost to the taxpayer, (like a nativity scene) fine. But I oppose the government placing the 10 commandments or the 7 (or how every many) pillars of Islam up or distributing copies of L.R. Hubard's books "Dyanetics (sp)".
Don't you get it, quit taking my money to violate the 1st amendment. If their is no cost to me (without my consent) and it is a temporary thing fine, but don't make me pay to spread your religion!

Nonexistent. Let volunteers polish it, otherwise let it rust. Bet it never rusts....

The land "donate" to erect this monument is not free nor the city's to give away.
If the city provides free land to erect a religious monument for a Christian sect but refuses to provide the same to other religions it is favoring one religion over another. No big deal if it's your religion of choice right?

Hrmm...
I recall a case where someone (I don't recall if he was an atheist or a pagan) petitioned to have a pagan-themed sign put up next to a nativity scene on city property (it was a reference to the winter solstice).
He eventually won and a sign was erected, but the sign was later defaced. I wonder why. It couldn't have been Christians, because we all know that only atheists are hostile to religion.

Nobody made you or anyone else pay for anything.
The 10 Commandments monument was donate by the Eagles Club.

The land in the park was bought by public funds (tax dollars) and then given free of charge to erect a monument.
When I, as a tax payer, am forced to purchase land for use for a religious monument, I am being forced to pay to spread your religion and it is wrong regardless of the religion being spread.
