Monitoring the Flames
USGS ^

Posted on 06/20/2002 12:43:22 PM PDT by per loin

For those wishing to monitor the fires eating Colorado, this site is near real time with satelite mapping of thermal zones. At the moment, the Missionary Ridge fire is the most dangerous and active. Looks like it has crossed, or is near to crossing US 550. Such a crossing endangers the upslopes on the west side of the Animas River. I'd not be surprised to see this fire soon dwarf the Hayman.

Thanks much -- my mom lives in Pinetop and were being asked not to tie up the phone lines and I'm the one keeping the relatives across the country informed as to what's going on. Got TV going and radio and this will help immensely, even though I didn't like seeing the direction it was heading. Rough times right now for lots, prayers needed for lots.
