Phibada Opera Troupe

Pyongyang, June 19 (KCNA) -- The Phibada Opera Troupe is the famous opera troupe, which adapted "the sea of blood", an immortal classic masterpiece created by President Kim Il Sung in the period of the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle, for a revolutionary opera. The troupe is based on the picturesque bank of the River Taedong. Its predecessor North Korean Opera Troupe was founded in Juche 35 (1946).

The troupe was the first art organization to start creating the five revolutionary operas "the sea of blood," "the flower girl", "tell the story, forest," "a true daughter of the party" and "the song of Kumgang-san mountain."

"The sea of blood" was created and staged in 1971. The germ of idea of the opera is that the sea of blood shed by people should be turned into a sea of blood shed by the enemy.

This is a Juche-based opera of new style quite different from the old operas. Stanzaed songs, Pangchang, dances, uninterrupted stage decor and other means of representation are introduced to the opera.

The troupe has produced many music and dance pieces of high ideological and artistic value.

In the period of the "arduous march" in the 1990s the troupe created and staged the revolutionary opera "the victory of revolution is in my sight," depicting the indomitable revolutionary spirit of a woman soldier of the Korean People's Revolutionary Army, the legendary dance drama "a touch-me-not" and others and "leader is always with us," "the way of victory" and other famous songs.

"Tell the story, forest" and "a true daughter of the party" are also staged by the troupe.

The troupe received "Kim Il Sung Order" in 1982 for its contribution to the Juche-based art development of the country.
