Chained to the desk? Work like a dog? Then bring the dog.

Advocates of the fourth annual "Take Your Dog to Work Day" hope everyone will drag Bowser to the office tomorrow to celebrate canines, their calming effect and dogdom in general.

I'm surprised that any company would agree to this with today's litigious environment around the workplace. I would be worried that dog might decide to take a chunk out of another employees a$$ while in my building. I would get sued and lose fast. I would also be concerned about lawsuits from employees that claim they are allergic to dogs or are afraid of dogs and had not been properly accommodated.

I know I sound really paranoid but there are plenty of people just looking for a reason to sue their employers. You need to be really careful today. I have overheard my own employees discussing lawsuits that their friends and families were involved in. They kept referring to all of the cash settlements that were won and how it was "easy money". It sent chills up and down my spine (into my wallet too).

I wouold have to agree - but of course it should be up to the business. I worked for a re-loading company for awhile (everything from 17 hornets to 20 mm lahti), we had two big rotts wandering around all the time and the owner carried a handgun with him at all times - not to mention he smoked at his desk. It was his company, his decision, as it should be. But I see where your coming from on this, people are sue happy. Perhaps I will get insurance and sue myself for something. I would be happy to settle out of court.

I have been taking my dog to work for years, and I work in Manhattan. It is much more common than one might think.
