MIAMI -- A woman was sentenced to 50 years in prison Tuesday for dousing her 15-year-old daughter with gasoline and setting her on fire, leaving the teen severely and permanently disfigured.

Maria Tarrago, 41, of Miami received the maximum sentence for three separate counts of attempted second-degree murder, aggravated child abuse causing great harm, and tampering with physical evidence in the December 1999 incident.

At a pre-sentencing hearing, Tarrago's court-appointed attorney, Alan Soven, asked for the court's compassion and an eight-year sentence followed by 30 years probation with ongoing psychiatric treatment.

I think the 8th amendment should have read: "The punishment for a crime shall not exceed the severity of the offense." That way they could have sentenced her to death penalty by incineration.

May she live all 50 years, seeing night after night as she lies down to sleep, the horror she inflicted upon her daughter.

May her daughter rise above the horror of her circumstances.

Despite pleas for leniency, the judge called Tarrago's crime ``unimaginable in a civilized society.'' ``I cannot find compassion for you,'' he said. ``Instead, you will receive justice.''

A judge I can respect!!

``It hurts me to see my daughter like that,'' Tarrago said through an interpreter. ``I would like to apologize. I love her. I need her. If I could give her all my body, I would.''

Words, words, words. Your actions speak much louder than words, and do not speak of love.

Prosecutors argued that the mother burned her daughter in a jealous rage after she arranged a tryst between herself, her 25-year-old boyfriend and the teen.

Let's see; she arranged a threesome with her boyfriend and daughter and then got jealous. The woman is a monster.

""Linguists have yet to formulate words that can adequately describe the wickedness you visited upon your own child," said Circuit Judge Scott Silverman, reading from a statement.""

Thank you, Judge Silverman, for having the guts to say it like it is, speaking up for the real victim here, rather than marching to the p.c. drum that beats the victim and cries for the perpetrator: It is sheer wickedness

"At a pre-sentencing hearing, Tarrago's court-appointed attorney, Alan Soven, asked for the court's compassion and an eight-year sentence followed by 30 years probation with ongoing psychiatric treatment...After sentencing, a dry-eyed Tarrago said she regretted [her actions getting caught]."

She already received her mercy; she gets to live - unmutilated - even without a conscience, and obviously unrepentent (as her response to the sentencing leaves indubitably clear).

"Assistant State Attorney Esther Rubio requested the maximum sentence." Rubio means "red" in Spanish. Hope that creature from hell, Maria, saw plenty of red when she was examined by Ms. Rubio. Now, if only Maria would spontaneously combust, s-l-o-w-l-y, but surely, justice would be consummately served. For the meantime, outstanding job, Ms. Rubio.

"Soven said he plans to appeal."

What, and deprive her of receiving ALL the attention in prison, as the block b-i-a-*-c-h, that sociopath craved as she physically and psychologically destroyed one of God's most precious gifts to life - an innocent child?

""It hurts me to see my daughter like that," Tarrago said through an interpreter. "I would like to apologize. I love her. I need her. If I could give her all my body, I would.""

Don't worry, Maria, honey...there'll be plentyyyy of fair maidens to whom you can 'give' your body in your new home. Yea, and you need her; and she needs you--for what? You love her? What in hades do you do if you hate someone???

From ZARF profile: "ZARF is currently before the Tennessee Bar arguing for reinstatement just weeks after his 8th marijuana conviction."

You weren't, by any chance, preparing for your ninth arrest as you wrote your comment above, were you? Just wondering, of course ;-) *naturally, i'm assuming you were previously arrested only eight times. Hey, i think you should have every right to ingest and/or inhale any and all substances you choose; it's your body, and i don't believe the gubmint should tell you what to do with it. On the other hand, maybe you could also contemplate taking enough personal responsibility henceforth to control your uninhibited gibberish while you're doing it? Thanks ;-)

Speaking as a conservative, female psychologist, all I can say is they need to get the shrinks out of the courtroom. That is, unless used for the prosecution of evil freaks like this.
