LP candidate training offered at convention
The Libertarian Party will offer a campaign training seminar at the upcoming National Convention that will teach candidates the "tricks, techniques, and lessons of Libertarian success."
The event -- entitled the Libertarian Victory School -- will be held from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on Tuesday and Wednesday (July 2-3), just prior to the National Convention at the Indianapolis Marriott in Indianapolis, Indiana, announced LP Political Director Ron Crickenberger.
"Whether you are a long-time LP activist who wants to hone your skills, or a brand new member who wants to learn how to maximize your political effectiveness, the Libertarian Victory School is your ticket to more success," he said.
Presenters at the Libertarian Victory School include:
* Ron Crickenberger, manager of the winning campaign of Bruce Van Buren for Avondale Estates City Commission (Georgia), and named "Rising Star of Politics" by Campaigns and Elections magazine.
* Don Gorman, former Libertarian New Hampshire State Representative, and newly elected member of the Deerfield School Board.
* Chris Azzaro, Director of the Libertarian Victory fund, a political action committee dedicated to electing Libertarians to local office. Since its founding one year ago, the LVF has assisted nine winning Libertarian races with financial and technical campaign help.
The two-day seminar will teach candidates how to maximize the last four months of a campaign; how to raise campaign "seed" money; how to earn "free" media; how to effectively use volunteers; how to craft powerful direct mail; how perform better in debates, and more.
"Do you want to learn the techniques of Libertarian political victory?" asked Crickenberger. "Do you want to learn how to run a winning campaign -- or how to use a non-winning campaign to increase the strength of the Libertarian Party? At the Libertarian Victory School you can learn all that -- and more.
"The Libertarian Victory School is your opportunity to learn the tricks, techniques, and lessons of Libertarian success."
The cost for the Libertarian Victory School is $30.00 with any paid convention package, or $60.00 without a convention package. Registration includes morning coffee and pastries, and a Libertarian Victory School manual.

Jesse Ventura's decision proves that third parties can't succeed by selling out, Libertarians say
What the hell, they won some very important seats in Leadville, Colorado.
;-)
Two of those councilmembers won unopposed races three years ago (right place, right time). If the LP had "helped", then at some effective opposition would have been scared up.
One of those two switched to Libertarian just before the election last year. Of the two who won last November, one switched to LP just before the election and the other was a long-time libertarian who had lost several other campaigns (right place, right time again - but at least an honest win against an incumbent). Again, with no "help" from the national or state LP she, at least, had a chance.
The moral of the story, for libertarians to win, they have to have nothing to do with the LP and vice versa.
P.S.
Since then one of those Leadville Libertarians has seen the light of how anti-American the LP is and switched to unaffiliated. The LP News (national) has deleted their glowing report of the Leadville success and also the recent defection. My, my. Are they embarassed? Do a search on the LP site for "Leadville" .

The first law that makes 3rd parties very hard is the requirement of an elected executive to run things. Several viable parties are easier when the chief executive is selectd by the legislature. To get elected president by a needs more than 50 percent of the votes. To go from a few percent to 50 in one election cycle is next to impossible. In a parlimentary system a small party can put together a group of parties to elect their guy prime minister. On the day he takes office a majority in the legislature supports him and his minority party.
If a third party were to win the presidency in the US the Democrats and Republicans in congress would have him impeached and convicted before he could say Bill Clinton.
In the US the media will support a third party as long as it looks like it is hurting Repubicans. If it looked like it was going to win, the Media would destory it faster than you could say Ross Perot and a birth day party.
The Electorial college makes it next to impossible for a third party to get to be president. It would be very very hard to get over 217 members of congress and over 50 senators in even 3 election election. It would take 4 years to just get to fifty senators. They would have to win 3/4 of the senate races to take control of the senate.
There is only one path to political power in the USA. A movement has to take over one of the two existing parties. The liberals took over the Democratic party in 1932. The conservative finally got control of the Republican party in 1980.
People who say they can effect change via the 3rd party route are lying. For that two happen the following must be true. There must be a very strong issue that finds Americans very divided. Both existing parties have to take the same side on that issue. Then a third party can take the other side and pull people away from the two existing parties. One of the existing parties dies.
That is what happened to Whigs and Democrats. The whigs died and the Republicans took their support.
Libertarians disagree with both existing parties in several areas of policy. The problem is nearly all americans agree with the two parties.
For a third party to work, Americans have to be divided and the two parties have to be united. It ain't gonna happen.
The Gomer Pyle Party fundraisers called the other night while I was out running errands. Too bad. I have quite a few things I'd like to say about why I won't contribute to them.
