IN the old James Bond films, Sean Connery played Agent 007. The double-0 meant Bond was one of but a handful of British agents who were licensed to kill. So it would appear is George W. Bush.

According to Bob Woodward of the Washington Post, President Bush has directed the CIA to conduct a covert operation to oust Saddam Hussein from power, and to use all available means, including the Special Forces. Adds Woodward, ``Such forces would be authorized to kill Hussein if they were acting in self-defense.''

Pat has to be the most negative politician of our day. He complains about everything and advocates doing nothing. Fine for trivial domestic bureaucratic decisions but disasterous for wars with WMD's and a willingness to attack the US directly.

He moves closer and closer to the edge. And his harder-to-conceal anti-Semitism is pushing him there. He is much closer to the David Duke wing of the spectrum than the George Bush wing.

I think Pat is being quite thoughtful and rational in this article. i don't agree with him, but I don't think his points are ill considered.

Israel is violating international law by building settlements on occupied land and has flouted 10 times the number of U.N. resolutions as Saddam.

I thought Pat believed in sovreignty. This is coming from the guy who opposes NAFTA and GATT. If he believes in the rights of nations, not the UN, what is his problem with the Jews?

The UN is OK in Buchanan's book, as long as it's beating that particular state.

In the end, the simplest explanation for many of Pat's views may just be anti-semitism.

But Israel is violating international law by building settlements on occupied land and has flouted 10 times the number of U.N. resolutions as Saddam.

Is it my imagination, or is Pat drifting further out on the fringe?
