FREEPER MUSIC IDEAS FOR HUGH HEWITT SHOW: FUN BREAK

If you are a Hugh Hewitt listener, you know that they have a lot of fun playing songs that suit the topic Hugh is discussing. When the topic of Clintoon comes up, for example, Hugh plays "How Can I Miss You When You Won't Go Away?" and "Man From Harlem." Or when he was talking about boycotting vacationing in Vermont, they played "Weekend in New England." You get the picture.
So take a moment to think of current hot topics in U.S. news and politicians with big mouths, and make your suggestions for fitting music. It could be funny, it could be serious.

I would like to dedicate this new Rush track called "Peaceable Kingdom" to President Bush...because he is living in a dream world with the Pali/Israel situation as well as this war on terror.
All this time were talkin and sharin our rational view
A billion other voices are spreading other news
All this time were livin and tryin to understand
While a billion other choices are making their demands
Talk of a peaceable kingdom
Talk of a time without fear
The ones we wish would listen
Are never going to hear
Justice against the hanged man
Knight of wands against the hour
Swords against the kingdom
Time against the tower
All this time we're shufflin' and layin out all our cards
While a billion other dealers are slipping past our guards
All this time were hopin and prayin we all might learn
While a billion other teachers are teachin them how to burn
Dream of a peaceable kingdom
Dream of a time without war
The ones we wish could hear us
Have heard it all before
A wave toward the clearing sky
A wave toward the clearing sky
The hermit against the lovers
Or the devil against the fool
Swords against the kingdom
The wheel against the rules
All this time were burning like bonfires in the dark
A billion other blazes are shooting off their sparks
Every spark is drifting ember of desire
To fall upon the Earth and spark another fire
A homeward angel on the fly
A wave toward the clearing sky

For the IDF: Dire Straits "Brothers in Arms."

"The Last Thing I Needed The First Thing This Morning Was To Have You Walk Out On Me"
by Gary P. Nunn (who used to be part of Jerry Jeff Walker's band).
Oh heck, why not a Jerry Jeff Walker song too:
"Redneck Mothers"
for when The REAL Bill Press reappears once he is asked about something other than
the Cardinal/Bishop/Priests scandals.
I think that song would get a laugh out of him.

I don't know why you don't just go ahead and play "Short People" for Daschle at some point. It's meant to be ironic anyway so no one should truly be offended.

As a big-time Hugh Hewitt fan, I have to say that he routinely has the WORST bumper music in all talk-radio-dom. Gads is it awful. It all sounds like it's from one of those horrible 1970s AM Radio Hits compilations for sale at 2:21 a.m. on MSNBC.
Nevertheless, here are a few suggestions:
For Al Gore: "Loser" by Beck
For Tom Daschle: "Disappointed" by Morrissey
For Hillary: "Devil with a Blue Dress on" by Mitch Ryder or whoever originally did that one
For Gray Davis: "Lights Out" by Peter Wolf
For Emmitt the Unblinking Eye: "Eye in the Sky" by the Alan Parsons Project

sheesh, how vicious can you be? there really is a method to the madness to the bumper music...mostly, the method is to keep hugh away from picking it...the stuff we play is the same stuff you listened to when you were growing up...that is, if you are the typical 25-54 year old, which happens to be our main demograph...see, it's a ratings thing...it just so happens that we make it a little goofy by trying to make it thematic to whatever hugh is talking about...

I disagree.... Dennis has the worst bumper music.

I bet you have some more up your sleeve. ;) And how do you post those animated graphics? That earthquake cartoon was adorable.

Dennis has the worst bumper music.
If you mean the bumper music on Dennis Prager's show...I'll have to contest that
(in a friendly way).
He probably does have a blend that will have something to offend everybody.
He has the opening classical music that probably sets the teeth of
rockers/rappers on edge.
Then he has an occassional rock-based theme, sometimes something from Rush (one of my favorites).
Occassionally some bumper music sounds like old "Blue Note" blues/jazz...which,
if you've ever listened to some of the instrumentation of some of the blues greats
like Willie Dixon...can sound kinda' weak compared to the wall-of-sound style.
Plus he gets what I guess are some covers of hits by The Ventures (or a
similarly-styled band; for me that is the weakest part of his music line-up.
But the best of all...the theme for The Happiness Hour.
What can be more cheesey...and fun than that!?
