Interesting post, particularly on a day when Walter Williams, sub-ing for Rush Limbaugh, interviews Tom DiLorenzo on his "The Real Lincoln." What strikes me is the vehemence with which nearly unqualified pro- and anti-Lincoln views are put forth. Folks associated with Clarement and the thinking of Jaffa tend to be in the former camp, DiLorenzo in the latter. It is as if one couldn't view Lincoln's shortcomings without being proslavery, or his virtues without being a statist.
