I was FReemailing back and forth with one of the most level-headed FReepers with whom I've had the honor to disagree with on several issues over the years, about the fact that he is a proponent of anti-personel mines being used at the border as determent.

His whole idea was vbased on the fact that people would not be stupid enough to try and cross a mine field.

I suggested that desperate people will take desperate measures, and that while most of us would agree that crossing ninety miles of ocean, on anything from inner tubes to boards held together by ropes, to twelve-foot row boats loaded with fourteen people or more, with very little water and no navigational tools, is foolish, I knew of close to 100,000 testaments to what extreme measures desperate people are willing to risk, laying at the bottom of the ninety mile stretch of water separating Cuba and Key West.

The fact these idiots cannot understand is that immigration enforcement is a civil function. It is NOT in the realm of the DOD. They want to REALLY trash the constitution by turning over police powers to the military. To do that then only one thing allows it. A declaration of martial law. Once done that does NOT limit martial law JUST to the borders. That means every man jack in this country is subject to that same martial law.
