I find the part about how the screen in the door was cut to be more interesting.

They've actually given very few details on it other than it was cut to look like it was done so from the outside, but could have been done from the inside.

Absolutely. The following is not a hasty condemnation of the dad, but surely on the minds of the investigators... excerpt from long article in Sept 2001 Indiana Observer about SERIAL KILLERS:

"Many serial killers seem incapable of telling the truth. They lie on a minute to minute basis, to everyone, about everything, even when it does not benefit them. Or, it is possible that rather than being liars, serial killers simply don't know fantasy from reality, which might be part of, just part of, their problem. Police investigators have found that some serial killers have a knack for registering "no deception" on polygraph tests when they falsely answer questions. This says something about serial killers. (Or it says something about polygraph tests. Think about it. The most vicious criminals, serial killers, are more likely to pass a lie detector test than are average citizens ?) Interviewing serial killers must be done with skepticism."

Not really. Assuming the questions are well designed, it is very diffuclt to pass if you're lying, but fairly easy to fail even if you're telling the truth. In short, false-negatives are very rare but false positives are quite common.

That the uncle's test results are inconclusive means nothing.
