I can think of no reason why the police wouldn't interview the milkman. Even if they are absolutely sure that they know who did it and it is not him. You would think that they would want to 1) continue the rouse of pretending to investigate, and 2) see if he really did see something.
To: Yeti
Maybe, though it's possible that the guy the milkman saw is the real perp, the hat, size, etc. more closely matched what Mary Katherine saw than Edmunds description did. Maybe the sicko got some perverse pleasure out of watching the reaction by the police, family, neighbors, etc. of the havoc he had created.

milkman gave the 266 prefix for the license so I do think it was the same car

WHY are these family members going on TV? WHAT could they possible think that they are accomplishing? And if they weren't appearing on television, people would say "What are they hiding???" I heard many comments (I don't think from you though) yesterday as to where the family was, and why weren't they talking to the media? The family took a day off yesterday from the media. Damned if they do and damned if they don't.

I will get into Utah Girl when the suspect is nabbed. 'Scuse me???

Perp could have "borrowed" the plates for one night; returned them after kidnapping the girl.
To: cherry
That's another strange thing. So, the milkman gives the 266 part of the license plate and that's supposedly how they tracked down the car & Edmunds. But, Edmunds didn't have his plates on his car. He had stolen plates and some kid found his plates in a field. So when did he get rid of the plates? Or did he switch plates with somebody that didn't notice right away and that happened to be the guy that was following the milkman. This is just too weird to be accurate. Too many pieces that don't add up.

If your theory is correct, then I think that it is more likely that the perp is an "extended family" member than I would have otherwise thought. That would explain why so many family members are going out to be interviewed when they have so little to say or to add -- and continue to do so even though they keep on making fools of themselves. They may be family members that he was closer to or respects more than others. It would also be consistent with two facts which I have believed to be true: that the phony screen tear indicates an inside job and that the story first put out about the small window being the point of entry was bunkum, again indicating an inside job.
I will have to think on these things.

Easy Sister....a little slower for context....LOL

Context? I just don't get the whole statement....

I said on another thread that the "family spokesperson" seems to have become standard operating procedure since the Chandra Levy case. I can see why it is necessary to capture and maintain the public's attention in a constant effort to get anyone with information to come forward. I just could not see why these people -- so many different people -- would go on TV when they have nothing much to say and were giving out contradictory information and generally looking like they had something to hide. My confusion was not that they were doing it but that they were so bad at it (most of them) and it seemed to be counterproductive.
But now Yeti has given me a new angle to consider. If the family and the police have known who the perp was from the get-go (which to me means "extended family member"), then this parade of family members is designed not to get and keep the public's attention so that leads will come in, but to speak directly to the perp and try to keep him from doing anything rash.
I just hope that the perp watches cable TV. And doesn't Freep.

Poster seems too busy to follow the mundane progress unless there exists prurient aspects. Thus poster would rather read 'history' after the fact.....Utah Girl thus a reference to the Smart affair rather than your screen name.....serendipity.
To: terilyn
Yes, and besides, the number the milkman wrote down was 266RDA. Cops couldn't find that one in the database. Closest to it was 266XJH. So they send out an APB for Edmunds. Something doesn't pass the smell test here.
Has the FBI, who are really in charge of the investigation, given the SLC police the lesser job of throwing up a smokescreen, while FBI continues surveillance on the real suspect?
To: Utah Girl
Oh, boy. I think I need a tinfoil adjustment. Static level's high tonight.
To: Palladin
So it's entirely possible that Edmunds was never even around the Smarts and only got drawn into this because 1) he has a car which vaguely resembles another person's and has a similar license plate number, 2) is a convicted felon out on parole, and 3) showed up at the vigil? Like I said before, if this is true, he has to be one of the most unlucky SOBs I've run across in a long time.
To: Iwo Jima
He's not even a convicted felon. He has two outstanding warrants: one for pepper-spraying a policeman, and one for irregularities with his auto registration. No record of sex crimes. Reminiscent of Richard Jewell?
To: Palladin
He also skipped meeting with his parole officer.
To: Palladin
Ummmm... hopefully that would be the "new" FBI vs the "old" FBI. After all, the old FBI did such a bang-up job helping the DC Police Dept. find out who killed Chandra Levy.
