Reporter suggest assassinating Rumsfeld

The unnamed reporter was only joking, claimed his follow journalist, who was stationed in Kabul, Afghanistan earlier this year, when he suggested to an armed U.S. soldier that it might be a neat idea to assassinate visiting U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

"Saw Rumsfeld today at the airbase, a day after I spoke with our American boys," wrote Malcolm Garcia, a reporter for the Knight Ridder newspaper chain, in an e-mail to his old Berkeley University journalism professor David Littlejohn.

After detailing his attempt to heckle the base's public information officer during a press briefing, Garcia explained to Littlejohn:

"I hang out with a wacky freelance guy out of Bangkok. He walked up to the secret service guys who had leather pistol grips inside their thighs and said, 'so tell me about this bondage thing you're into.'

"Then to some of the soldiers, 'so if you unlock your safety's [sic], you could just blow Rummy away, right?'"

Garcia was greatly amused by his colleague's witty assassination joke, telling his old prof, "He's a perfect match for me and behind the insanity a very good reporter."

Garcia's intriguing anecdote was actually posted to Berkeley's journalism alumni association website, where the Opinion Journal Online first noticed it Thursday afternoon.

"Here's an example of why Americans hate the media," OJO observed.

Unbelievable.

I have a hard time comprehending why some people would even think

about joking about killing someone.

Hey! I know ... is he a leftist?

Two people in the last week have told me that the biggest problem in the country today is the media. Maybe people are starting to catch on. BTW, one of the people is the mother of a pilot being sent to Afghanistan next week and while one would think she would believe the terrorists are the biggest problem, she quite strongly believes the media is the most dangerous enemy.

What's the name of the whacky freelance guy from Bangkok? Is he Thai? Might be a good idea to send him home. Or, an unfortunate accident might befall him. As for Malcolm, what an idiot. He can refer jokingly to the murder of the Secretary of Defense of his country, and thinks it is witty. Perhaps we would be better off if he just stayed there. Did anyone pass this witty exchange on to our security folks in Kabul?

Sounds like the unnamed reporter visited the poppy fields in Afghanistan. Just a hunch the Berkeley pulp-brain was high on the same juice.

One thing about the media that I find ironic is that they wont show film anymore of the 9/11 attacks on the WTC, one of the reasons givin is that they dont want to instigate hate crimes against Muslems, but they had no problem constantly repeatedly showing a few seconds of the Rodney King video over and over and over and over again untill they got people pissed off to the point they KNEW there would be a riot.

We need to take Garcia into custody as an enemy combatant until he 'fesses up who the perp is. THAT character needs to be taken out to a six-foot-deep hole on the airfield perimeter, given Excedrin Headache number 9(MM), and shoveled over.

First of all, get the quote and the spelling right: "We start the bombing in five minutes." Ronald REAGAN

Second, he intended for the statement to confuse and worry foreign enemies--and it worked. Ultimately, Russia's fears of his intentions and their frantic and unsuccessful attempts to keep up with the USA led to the fall of the Berlin Wall and the Soviet Union, both.

I love what Ronal Reagan did for this country, and for freedom.

I guess United States Senator Jesse Helms suggesting one time that Clinton better bring his bodyguards when he visited North Carolina wouldn't apply either...

No can do. Treason only applies during a war. Congress has not seen fit to recognize, let alone declare a war.

(If they did, 2/3 of their posturing and blovation would fall under the definition of treason, wouldn't it?)...

Bombing does not necessarily equate to killing. After all, look at Clinton's bombing of aspirin factories in Sudan ...

You have an excellent point. Perhaps we should organize a write-in to the mainstream media regarding your point?
