Global collectivism is truly the liberal religion. Note the use of "privacy" to deride individualism.

It's as if the world community has made a statement through the international language of football: the inclusive France can be champions but this other France has no place.

Oh, really, PUHLEEEEZE!

These guys are like those Star Trek geeks, and to quote the inimitable Shatner... "Get a LIFE"..

This had nothing to do with the world telling the French to "F" themselves for hinting at conservativism, its just a GAME for crying out loud. The French team SUCKED this year, sucked BADLY.. maybe its the result of excessive socialism leading to a wimpy populace?

I'll tell you what, the day, and that day may come soon, but The Day that the USA wins The World Cup, the world will go into collective mourning, and we'll just go "heh, cool!"

Overall, it's not an interesting article and I felt I wasted some precious time reading it. But where is the 'anti-American' part in this?

Well, what did you expect? The Manchester Guardian is the old red rag of English journalism -- the bible of British opinion from A to B. Why would anyone expect that they would ever drop their didactic, obvious-as-anvils hortatory style, and stop trying to turn every little thing into Life Lessons in Building Socialism?

Those guys don't print a newspaper, it's a screed.

col-lec-tive, a. Formed by collection; forming a collection or aggregate; aggregate; combined; pertaining to a group of individuals taken together. [emphasis added]

The only thing linking soccer to "collectivism" is the title you created for this thread, and it's a piss-poor one at that.

There is nothing like American football, but soccer is a great game. The World Cup is driven by MONEY, just like any good capitalistic venture. You guys wanna talk about the Olympic (bowel) movement... that's another story. But quit pickin on soccer. :-)
