The National Security Agency received information on September 10th that "something big" was coming, it was reported last night.
But not until September 12 did the agency understand what the warning meant, CBS news said today.
Meanwhile, the Immigration and Naturalization Service has told its agents to inspect baggage belonging to Yemeni citizens for large sums of money, thermos bottles and night-vision goggles, a government official said.

September 10, 2001 : Two al-Qaida recruits from Germany who were arrested in Pakistan on Sept. 10 en route to Afghanistan, later told German authorities that they were recruited by Binalshibh, but Mahummad Haydar Zammar was their principal contact, according to an account in Germanys Der Spiegel magazine. European officials, including the German authorities, said that while they had indications in the summer of 2001 that al-Qaida was planning a major attack, they had no specifics on what form it would take, where it would occur or who, specifically, was involved.
