Senate Defeats Effort To Stop Debate
On Homosexual Hate Crime Bill
Washington, DC Todays vote in the Senate to stop debate and prohibit amendments to S. 625 (the Local Law Enforcement Enhancement Act) was defeated 54-43. The vote is a major blow to homosexual activists and their liberal allies, said Traditional Values Coalition Executive Director Andrea Lafferty today. Senate liberals and homosexuals were determined to cut off all debate by invoking cloture on this pro-homosexual hate crime bill because they were fearful of what amendments might be added to it.
S. 625 is a major effort of homosexual activists to achieve federal protection for their sexual behaviorsand to punish those who oppose homosexual conduct. If passed, this legislation would have overruled state laws and excluded protection for rape victims. It would have also banned the death penalty for heinous crimes, said Lafferty. In addition, it sets up a two-tiered system of justice where homosexuals are more equal than others under the law. State laws are sufficient to handle any so-called hate crimes against homosexualsthere's no need to provide special federal rights for homosexuals.
Lafferty believes that homosexual activists and their liberal allies will attempt to manipulate Senate procedure to prohibit any future debate or amendments from being added to S. 625. Their unwillingness to compromise at all on this legislation has doomed it to failure, said Lafferty. Theyve fallen on their own sword on this one. They are fearful that conservatives will add amendments to S. 625 to include the sex abuse of children, providing enhanced penalties for homosexual pedophiles, the death penalty or other efforts that will damage homosexual goals. Homosexuals put their hopes on this bill to establish themselves as a so-called sexual minority under federal law. They have failed!
