Here's the question I keep kicking around, without a satisfactory answer:
Since they knew it was still in the "planning stages", meaning there was no immediate danger of him actually setting off a device, why didn't they just tail the heck out of him to find out where he goes and who he talks to? Why bring him in at all? Why not keep him under constant surveilance, and wait? He could very well have LED them to the others and to the "source" of the nuclear material.

re:#17
Who knows, maybe he already has and the authorities wanted to get the word out to see who would panic and run for cover ... maybe leading them to even more of the roaches in our wainscotting.

just a couple weeks ago a story broke that INS allowed numerous illegals into the country, (I think before 9/11) in order to track who they met. Our fine gov't officials promptly lost them and they are still on the loose. Guess they felt it was too dangerous to let this guy go, plus it helps to have a captured terrorist to keep the pressure on the liberal hand wringing socialists.

If they lost track of him and something happened the press and the dems would scream that Bush was gambling civilian lives.

why didn't they just tail the heck out of him to find out where he goes and who he talks to? Who says they didn't. Maybe the tails were spotted by accomplices. At that point there is no point in letting him continue to roam around.
