Israel arrests Arafat guard (involved in numerous shooting attacks)

JERUSALEM: The Israeli military has arrested a member of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat's presidential guard who had been involved in numerous shooting attacks, an Israeli security source said.

Force 17 member Bashar Said Kamal Khatib, 30, was arrested in his home town of Qalandia just south of the West Bank town of Ramallah during Israel's reoccupation of West Bank cities in April, the source said. Details of his arrest were released after the conclusion of an investigation into Khatib's activities. The probe found Khatib guilty of involvement in numerous shooting attacks at soldiers and Israeli buses, the source said.

Meanwhile, an army spokeswoman said Sunday that one of the three Palestinians killed in an explosion in the southern Gaza Strip yesterday was a senior operative of the militant Islamic Hamas group, wanted for the murder of two Israeli citizens.

Israeli troops discovered the body of Yusuf Malachi, 30, from the southern Gaza Strip town of Rafah, along with two others, who were apparently killed by an explosion near the electronic barrier that separates the Gaza Strip from Israel.

Malachi was "a very active Hamas member who was wanted for taking part in numerous attacks", one of which took place in 1994, when two Israeli citizens working on a building site in Ramle (near Tel Aviv) were killed, she said.

The other two men, both of whom were still unidentified, belonged to the Palestinian security forces, she said.

The army initially said only two bodies were found at the scene, but further searches revealed the body of a third man, she said.

I certainly hope he does. The Israelis handle this much better than Americans do.

Hey, you are back. I missed your ping and didn't see you posting until now (and on another thread about the Libery).

I bought 'Rules of Engagment'. Very good movie, nice 'crowd control'.

A member of Palestinian security forces

That's liberal code for "one of Arafat's mass-murder thugs".

Huh?! Guarding Arafat involves going out and blowing away civilians in the street? Only in the eyes of the Arabs and their lapdog press!!

It's a great movie. I do not endorse such crowd control expect when necessary. And it was necessary there. If that's the way they like it, then that's the way ya have to give it to them. They are disappointed if you don't.

What did I come back to? I'm waiting for next big terror incident on US soil. What will our answer be? How about Israel's answer to a huge "incident"? We shall see. I am optimist about G_d and his ways but not the human condition.
