Israeli Gays Hold First March in Jerusalem

By Jon Immanuel

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israeli homosexuals, a few of the men in tight leather garb or women's clothes, marched through Jerusalem under heavy security on Friday in the biblical city's first gay pride parade.

The rainbow flags for gay pride hoisted by the marchers faced protest placards held by religious Jews as the parade of a few hundred wound through the center of Jerusalem, holy to three monotheistic faiths which all oppose homosexuality.

"What is this pride you talk about?" shouted a man wearing the dark suit and black skullcap which marked him as a member of the ultra-religious Jewish community. "You are crazy fools."

Annual gay pride marches attract thousands in Tel Aviv, but in conservative Jerusalem the first such march attracted a few hundred marchers, many curious observers and a handful of hostile protesters.

Amid tight security provided by heavily armed police in dark glasses, a few men dressed in women's clothing or wore tight leather garments and makeup.

"This is not Sodom. Get back in the closet," read a placard held by a religious Jewish man, referring to the city in the biblical Book of Genesis which God destroyed by fire because of its sinfulness.

"I feel more comfortable in Tel Aviv than in Jerusalem," said Assaf Tester, a student in tight leather pants. "In Jerusalem the leather stuff is not really in."

The National Israeli Gay, Lesbian, Transsexual and Bi-sexual Organization sponsored the parade.

"It reminds me of our first time in Tel Aviv in 1993. Then a couple of hundred showed up, but last year there were 50,000. I hope Jerusalem will reach that figure in less time," said Eyal Naaman, a spokesman for the group.

He said Jerusalem's mayor Ehud Olmert, from Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's Likud Party, expressed his understanding but refused to grant official support.

Almost half of Jerusalem's 27-member town council represent religious or ultra-religious political parties crucial to Olmert's majority. In Tel Aviv, religious elements compose less than 20 percent of the city council.

LOVE WITHOUT BORDERS

The parade began in Zion Square, a downtown shopping area, and swelled as it went up the crowded Ben-Yehuda pedestrian mall, a frequent target of suicide bombers, flanked by police.

One rabbi representing the Movement of Progressive Judaism marched in the parade. "We're here to show that Jerusalem is open to all gays and lesbians, just like our synagogue," said Rabbi Levi Weiman-Kelman, an American immigrant.

Banners called for "Love without Borders."

Members of Shinui ("Change"), which is the party most opposed to religious coercion and has a six-member faction in the 120-member parliament, was the only political party represented in the parade.

One banner said Jerusalem was "the city of David and Jonathan" referring to the friendship of King David who made Jerusalem his capital 3,000 years ago, and Jonathan, the son of King Saul. The Bible says their love surpassed that of women.

Disney / ABC again announces its agenda of pushing gay pride worldwide. Oh, well ....

Wonder how many Israelis denounced that sign as scandalous?

Scandalous?? It's blasphemous. God is Love. To pervert that to mean what the Gays want it to mean is blasphemy.

The Gay subculture is the Devil's playground, they pervert symbolism the way cross-dressers undermine female imagery.

Put on the Armor of God.

They should have marched down to the city of their roots at the tip of the Dead Sea to see where their ancestors are buried.

Great point.
The unreligious Jews think UFOs are angels returning, too.
No wonder they'll be fooled by the Anti-christ. He's probably a gay green man.

To a homosexual, there is no natural love for a wife, child, or neighbor.
They think 'love' means kinky sex.
Go figure.

For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed. Malachi 3:6

'Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable. --Leviticus 18:22

And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time. --Daniel 7:25

According to the black/pink triangle, Pali supporters do have their priorities:

Modern Israel suffers from the same thing America does. The concept of One Nation Under God is under attack. They are too secular, just as we are.

Prophesy: if we lose "One Nation Under God," we lose our nation.

I suspect the same is true of Israel.

The "Ultra Orthodox" gentleman said everything that needs to be said.
Re: David and Jonathan. Doesn't it occur to these people that two people can deeply love and care for each other without getting sexual? If they don't understand that then they're to be pitied more than anything else.

Of course, we all know that a man can't love another man, nor a woman love another woman unless sex is involved. /sarcasm

As it was in the days of Noe...

Israeli lesbians wave the 'rainbow' gay flag during a gay parade in Jerusalem June 7, 2002. Hundreds of Israelis have attended the first gay parade to take place in the city on Friday. (Yannis Behrakis/Reuters)

When they fly those rainbow flags, it's like they are flipping off God and saying, "Here is your promise not to destroy us again, nee-nee-nee-nee". They must have forgotten that the rainbow referred only to water, and that Sodom was destroyed by fire and brimstone.

Leave the judgement and execution of sentence of God to Him. We're not qualified to judge, but we know the Law. That is enough.
