WASHINGTON (AP) The Bush administration's long-held assertion that it lacked the evidence to avert the terror attacks is giving way to a crucial question: What did the government know before Sept. 11? The administration's theme has been that it had no specific information and therefore could not stop the plotters.

No, even with everything that has come to light to date, there still is nothing that would have led anyone to stop the events of 9/11. It is all just too speculative, even if all of Rowleys hunches had been followed through on. There would not have been any reason to stop the hijackers from getting on those airplanes.

Good point. Suppose we did know. Even if we grounded the planes and closed the WTC how long could we keep up that posture? The only way to keep the terrorists off the planes would have been to profile Arab types and we're not even doing that now. The terrorists would have just waited or went to another target.

And the key is the last sentence of this article. I don't want to waste much time on that in the congress because their intentions are not honorable, just political. Time to look forward to a better and more efficient way.
