ADC-AADC, Arab American Discrimination Committee
On C-SPAN Now-Live
Speaking now: David Cole
Georgetown University Law School Professor
Giving up Civil Liberties for Security, Deportation, Detainees, Targeting Arab Americans, Government overection to terrorism, ect.
I am certainly not in favor of internment camps, but I see no reason why non-citizens who break the even a minute law should not be invited to leave our country in a hurry.
I do not see that as a loss of civil rights.
We do not owe the world or its citizens a damn thing.
Amen brother! And if they don't like getting finger printed they can stay the hell home and save us all alot of trouble.
Upset over security at Air Ports towards Arab Americans. They don't like to shakedown all other passengers are receiving, they seem to think it is only them this is happening to, I guess. They have the ACLU on their side to file law-suits.
If not, then tough noogies.
Answering questions on issues now! Shocking and depressing.
When will the Courts step in and stop to it? Stand up to Ashcroft?
It's important they choose their cases carfully.
Woman was stripped searched at airport, waiting for court to decide. Can non-citizen airport workers be fired?
Speaking out against the Patriot Act, getting together with ACLU and having part of the act eliminated. They do not want the Police working with the FBI.
Talking about their association with terrorists, guilt by association, and punishments they may face. Freezing of their assets because of this. Bases of evidence connecting them.
What it is to be "other than white", racial profiling. Airport again! Their not sitting Idle.
Human Rights in Freemont! Stopping Secret Evidence, releasing the names of detainees, stop interigations, Arab immagrants and South Asians.
Why we need to have the names revealed. If the names are kept secret, nobody knows who they are , where they are. Civil Liberties violations.
If the Attorney General has done something they can contact ACLU.org and report it.
Mutant screener demanding an apology for screenee's attitude during Number five.
Victim, as with all others being screened at that time, is white, all were either oldish or pre-teen, and all apparently preselected by airline.
Of course I was also travelling with six other people, on government contract business, tickets bought by employer, and all dressed near identically; screener said I 'fit the profile".
Next time I pull my travel togs out of the hamper and wear a rag on my head, maybe I'll get through hassle free.
"Selective enforcement of any law based on unchangeable characteristics like race, ethnicity or national origin is at its core un-American," he added.
"The fingerprinting and tracking proposal is only the latest Bush Administration action targeted at Muslims and people of Middle Eastern descent since September 11. Other discriminatory measures have included round-ups, dragnet questioning, the detention of more than a thousand young men and the targeting of Middle Eastern communities for heightened enforcement of minor immigration law violations."
I listened to President George Bush just yesterday ask us as citizens to report anything we thought was "suspicious". I think I'll take his advice and err on the side of it being nothing, that way, I'll not wonder the rest of my life if I saw something that should have been reported.
They left their miserable hellhole countries to come here. If they don't like the way we do things, they can go home. The ultimate solution to all of this is to stop issuing visas and give the ones who are here about 10 days to pack up and leave the country. Those who don't will be in volation of our laws, rounded up and arrested. They want to live in our country (if not take it over) and participate in our economy, but they want to bring their old, bad bloodstained habits over here and impose them on us. They can shut up and hunker down, or they can get out. Remember the Battle of Lepanto
Rights and freedoms can not be a gift. They (rights and freedoms) belong to every individual since the moment of birth. Rights may be recognized by states/government authorities, temporary restricted or constantly violated by them - depending on the nature of the state and/or specific situation.
World-wide organizations (with well known ethnic and religious base) openly declared and started a war against other countries, and this war is clearly based on the religious (and ethnic) differences. Who cares that those organizations are not (if they are not!) States? They have well-organized infrastructure, budget, underground armies, intelligence, recruiting system (name more).
Under conditions of a war, rights of certain groups may and shall be restricted. BTW, 9/11 events give much more reasons for harsh actions against arabs and other muslims living in USA than Pearl Harbor provided for repressions against Americans of Japanese origin.
We do not owe the world or its citizens a damn thing.
This is not about " owe or not owe". This is simple legal issue of rights restrictions under the war conditions.
