****CONDIT NAILED!**** Prosecutors Set to Indict on Obstructing Police Investigation
Nat'l Enquirer World Exclusive ^ | June 19, 2002 Issue | Mile Walker-Executive Editor

Prosecutors are set to indict the congressman on charges that he has tried to stymie the investigation into Chandra's disappearance and death, sources close to the investigation have revealed.

What's more the sources say several pieces of evidence have convinced investigators that Condit is linked to Chandra's murder.

The issue that goes on sale Friday reveals what happened when Condit appeared before a Federal Grand Jury.

Of course, they haven't been so hot on this whole Chandra story.

We don't know for certain, do we, that Mike Dayton, (or any other Condit staffer), has been questioned by the DC Grand Jury? But I agree with those who think it more likely Mike Dayton, not Condit, would be indicted for "obstructing" at this point. As far as we know, Condit is still dodging a grand jury appearance.

Stanley Brand is Dayton's big time democrat lawyer, hired way back last year, and according to an old article I found in The Modesto Bee, written by Mike Doyle, investigators have interviewed Dayton several times. If Dayton didn't know way back when, that he was in jeopardy, he wouldn't have had to hire one of the democrats' biggest DC lawyers, and on his own, there's no way he could afford him.

Your # 73 is excellent analysis, and I really appreciate the specific information I had forgotten, like the name of the person who gave Condit the watch, and the brand of the watch. Thank you.

The watch is numbered as is the box.

It sounds like the watch & box are the "smoking gun" in this thing.

Yeah he was questioned, and so was Condit, but the fix was in and the grand jury was not allowed to ask anything in broad areas that would be just what we needed to know. This was back in early April, IIRC.

But I think there is so much evidence, any GJ at all might indict at any time if they could get permission to do so.

Isn't there a kind of watch called a Turtle?

Isn't it true that RCP, since it is in DC, is considered a NATIONAL park and no metal detectors are allowed in it, and therefore if the guy had been looking for METAL turtles, he would technically have been breaking the law...

Something tells me that law would not be too strongly enforced in upper RCP by DC police right now...if a ring would turn up, or certain keys, etc.

If the Dems are paying for Dayton's lawyer, I imagine Dayton will follow their orders.

I've long thought that the watch & the watchbox were the smoking gun.

Dude, if that psychic puss doesn't have a Website, she should! She could be bigger than Miss Cleo (with proper marketing, of course . . . and a turban).

The Enquirer? Don't tell me - the alien that befriended Rush Limbaugh will be the arresting officer....please.

That would be Weekly World News with the Rush Limbaugh/alien story. You need to keep your tabloids straight. ;~)

In all seriousness the Nat'l Enquirer has broken a couple of legitimate news stories in the past couple of years. Which puts them two ahead of the NYT.

Chandra wore a man's Tag Heuer watch according to her co-workers at the Bureau of Prisons.

I don't recall this. Do you have a cite handy?

Thanks.

DB12 - can you help me here? I know I read in one of the timelines that Chandra's co-workers at the Bureau of Prisons had said that she wore a man's Tag Heuer Watch but I can't find it right now.

Thanks!

"indict his staffers"

This could be bad for Condit - aren't his children part of his staffers?

From the Enquirer story....

"And one focus of the grand jury session was Condit's alibi for that day - particularly his claim that he went to a doctor at 5 pm.

"He says he went to a chiropractor, but incredibly at one point, he told police he couldn't remember the doctor's name or address." said the close source."

Vewwwy interesting.

Ok... let's tie this doctor's visit fact in...

Condit said originally, that he met with Cheney from 12:30-3:30, then he returned to the office. (meeting actually lasted til 12:50)

Condit said originally that he was at the doctor from 5-6 (according to this story, he couldn't produce the name or address of the doctor)

Condit originally said he met with Rebecca Cooper from 6:30-7:30 PM that night (He actually didn't meet with her that day, but spent 3 hours with her the next afternoon)

Does he have to confess til Chief Wiggum turns up the heat? Is that it? His entire alibi for the afternoon is not only unverifiable, but demonstratably false. This is so pathetic that it would be funny if it weren't so tragic.

I am not a tin foil helmet type, but they can't be this incompetent right? What is worse, being this incompetent, or covering for Condit?

TLJ was wrong, it's the DC police department! Heard the chief say so.
