'Decisive Response' Needed to Iraq Threat - Cheney

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Vice President Dick Cheney said on Thursday there was a growing danger of terrorist groups acquiring weapons of mass destruction the United States says are being developed in Iraq and that this required a decisive response.

"This gathering danger requires the most careful, deliberate and decisive response by Americans and our allies," Cheney said in a speech to the National Association of Homebuilders.

Cheney said the United States was increasingly concerned about the possibility that militant groups such as al Qaeda would link up with governments of states developing weapons of mass destruction.

His remarks followed a series of aggressive comments toward Iraq by U.S. leaders, who have also said they want to see President Saddam Hussein ousted from power.

Since Dubya's return from Europe, and his address soon thereafter at West Point that beautiful Saturday morning, there have been a number of very direct statements of intention coming from the officers on deck.

What the Vice-President sez feels like a capstone to me.

As his father patiently built a coalition, I think our current President Bush is patiently building a foundation for a 'just war' and getting his knights and rooks in place to take the Black King in one swift move.

I think it will happen sooner, and not later. The sleepers already here will awaken and do their deeds on that day. It's gonna be one to remember.

The Vice-Pres. is keeping America aware of the job ahead. I trust his talk is not idle and that preparations are at an advanced stage. The CIA has now had the better part of a year to plow the field in Iraq. We must hope that this is a swift campaign, which can be quickly followed by an uprising in Iran.
