I know a woman who lost her only son about 2 years ago here in San Diego.
She began going to bereavement counseling with Dr. Ken Druck of the San Diego Bereavement Consortium and apparently got to know him well. He was late to one of their meetings after the Danielle murder. He apologized and told her that he had just come from the Van Dams and said it was the wierdest experience had but did not expound on it. She had hoped to get him aside and question him further but had not had a chance.
Now, this man is very well known. He has been to New York after the Attack on September 11th. He has seen some pretty hairy things. So, coming from him, in my opnion, it means something. My friend said that she would not be surprised if he were to testify. We'll see.
For what it's worth, here is a "friend of a friend" statement:
The same woman has a daughter who went to the desert with Westerfield and his daughter years ago when they were in middle school. She said that Westerfield stayed in the RV quiet a bit of the time they were in the desert. If true, it is somewhat in keeping with his behavior of not straying from his RV on the weekend of the 1st and 2nd of February.
"I don't think he's going to let anything get out of hand – that's not his style," said criminal-defense attorney Peter J. Hughes, who has been practicing in San Diego for several decades. "I tell you right now, he's going to be in charge."

Did they have any more contact with him after that? if so, any more info? What are the chances (odds) of knowing someone that knows him..amazing..

I can hear the judge shaming them all, before he pronounces sentence. Will the PC crowd object to his moralizing pronouncements?

I think the judge will be fairly scathing, by end of trial. I have no idea if the trial will be fair. So far, the vDs and their neighbor haven't been the best witnesses for their daughters' disappearance-- they keep trying to find the possible motive for DWs involvement, in the publics' own sense of personal shame and guilt.
Why are police no longer using his real name? Maybe Peter Damon van Dam discoved Daniel-le wasn't his?
CNN as well as Court TV and some of the other media are famous for mis-information. DW's name is David, not Daniel.
Why do you think Danielle was DW's bio child? Her birthdate is 9-22-94. The VDs were living in Florida or Texas at that time. They moved to SD in '98 or '99, I believe.
1. DW has a girlfriend that has a teenage daughter named Danielle. She sent him email photos of her. It could be DW's.
2. Brenda has a daugther named Danielle. She's a known swinger. DW divorced about a year after her birth. Brenda could be the reason.
3. CNN called him Daniel Alan Westerfield. They said they got that from investigators.
4. Danielle is obviously the female version of Daniel.
5. VDs sold their florida house and moved to Texas? about that time. Did VD's go to SD for training for a few months, first?
6. If it's true, Westerfield will use it in his defense which has been quite a secret so far. Feldman has a lot of secrets up his sleeve, I think.
7. There was a recent case where DNA showed several of a man's children were really the wife's fathers!
8. I do alot of family history research. The actual parentage of many (maybe 15%) children is not known.
It's kind of a closed loop. They knew they'd get raked over the coals for their lifestyle, so they lied about it. This caused more suspicion when their lies about lifestyle were uncovered. But this should have all been stuff for prosecution to work out, not defense. Right now it's just looking like a desperate defense tactic to distract the jury, but we'll see.
This is, of course, separate from their non lifestyle-related lies.
