Ah, then I'm sure you can produce the bill of sale that transferred the land from the Federal Government to the Confederate States of America.

The land for Fort Sumter had been deeded over to the Federal Government by the State of South Carolina, with all claims extinguished, in 1836.

Holding on to "property" that never belonged to you, and was not "property" in any case, caused that problem.

(Did I mention that Sam Houston could whup Edmund Ruffin with one hand tied behind his back?)
