"Vice chancellor for student affairs." Although I have spent a lot of time at DLI, I don't remember ever hearing of this position. Anybody knows what the job involves?

Worse than stupid - unprofessional. If he knew enough to legitimately make such an accusation he'd have done better than that. It's simply a good thing this nimrod will never lead American servicepeople into battle.

wall-to-wall-counseling,"

Save for some Spec Ops types, I doubt anyone in the USAF these days would understand the term, much less know how to administer it ;-)

You'd be surprised. An entire "pamphlet" on wall-to-wall counseling circulated at least some Army areas recently. I've got a copy in the file that the better half received and he isn't special ops - not even close.

LTC Butler plans to retire in a few weeks after 24 years in the Air Force.

24 years of service and only made Lieutenant Colonel? This guy is obviously a loser.

This hero reminds me somewhat of the white scarf aviators that had a difficult time doing their duty during Vietnam. They reminded one somewhat of the visiting fireman, he loved to drive the firetruck during all the parades, but when the firealarm rang, he was among the missing or one that remained in the background all the time.

How many years of military service do you have and what is your rank?

"24 years of service and only made Lieutenant Colonel? This guy is obviously a loser"

This guy is obviously a loser. That sentence is undeniable.

LTCol in the USAF after 24 is not the correct quallifier.Rank promotions in the USAF are not an automatic based on time in service. An extremely small minority of LTCs attain and retain that rank undeservedly. Those who do not deserve it are rarely in positions of operations.Sounds like this guy was placed pretty far from any real power or authority.

The term ROAD comes to mind.(for all non vet freepers ROAD=Retired on active duty.

Didn't some general get removed for criticizing Clintoon?

While I was on active duty, I remember an AF general in Europe somewhere who gave a speech to a group of civic leaders and was asked afterward by one what he thought of the new president - Klintoon. He responded honestly - that X42(i) is a draft-dodging, pot-smoking womanizer. He was not aware there was a reporter in the room who of course reported the comments. The general was forced to retire.

including duty as a combat pilot in Desert Storm.

Not quite a REMF, but looks like this guy needs to go mow his lawn and spend time catching fish instead of supervising and training soldiers.

Re #32.

Lest anyone think I am defending this Lt Col, let me be clear in saying - I am not! What he did was incredibly stupid (and wrong-headed), but to call him a 'loser' because he is a Lt. Col. with 24 years of service is a stupid statement.

Not everyone in the military can become a general officer (or even full-bird colonel) or even wants to! There is a lot to this that we don't know. Perhaps, like me, he had a lot of enlisted time. I don't know and neither does VMI70.

That's academia speak for "clerk"

From what I remember of my time there, the only thing the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs did was sign diplomas.

Guess my dad was a loser. He retired from the Air Force after 21 years active duty as a LtC.

Then again, he was prior enlisted in the USMC for three years, fought in Korea. So - since we don't know the officer in questions history - no one can really say anything about him.
