Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) chief, Ahmed Saadat urged the Palestinian Authority not to yield to US and Israeli pressure to keep him in jail.
"There is no reason to keep me under arrest other than US and Israeli blackmail," Saadat told the Arabic daily al-Hayat, from his jail in the West Bank town of Jericho. Yasser Arafat's Palestinian Authority "should implement the court decision to release me, as it expresses its legal jurisdiction over its land," he added.
The Palestinian High Court on Monday ruled that despite Israeli accusations, there was no evidence linking Saadat to the October 2001 assassination of Israeli tourism minister Rehavam Zeevi by the PFLP. But the Palestinian Authority said it rejected the court order "because of Israeli threats."
Saadat said "I hope the Authority will respect the court decision, it will be the test of its respect for the independence of justice and for democracy. "The Authority has spoken a lot about reforms, it will be the test of its credibility on reforms."
When they release me I hope that no Hellfire missile will hit me in the place where the sun doesn't shine though
My thoughts exactly. I'd bet the Israelis would have all the exits covered.
I thought that's why the PA wouldn't release him? He's essentially in protective custody. But now he wants out?
Very confusing.
