My real question is why is murbarak spilling this now? He obviously knows this is NOT helpful to the bush admin, with our media ready to blame him for causing the attacks practically, but this is the same administration he is going to be dealing with for the next 2 1/2 years minimum. Maybe he was given a green light by the administration for this, as they assume it will not cause any lasting problems for them?
I said it on a different thread that this is hardball from the Egyptians. They will use anything to thwart any escalation of our activities in the Middle East. They release this just as we are ramping up our military actions and Congress is set for 9-11 hearings. This is some pretty sophisticated PR. If need be, they'll probably say they told us exactly what was planned if it meets their purpose.
Yes, we were asleep at the wheel, doesn’t everyone know this? We were all too interested in our portfolios to see what was coming, it has happened before.
During WWII the same thing happened. We (us and the Brits) were reading most of the Ultra/Magic summaries; it took over a year to get it organized to where they were useful. Were the signs there, of course, but you have to be looking to see them.
What concerns me more is the fact that the problems are not fixed, business as usual at the FBI/CIA, no plan for probability profiling, a totally out of control INS, airport security a disaster, no one fired at the FBI, etc. Unfortunately it will take another before we get serious about these guys, at least on the home front.
