U-TURN: BUSH ADMIN OUTLINES 'GLOBAL WARMING' EFFECTS ON AMERICA; ACKNOWLEDGES DAMAGE

DAMAGE

In a stunning U-turn for the Bush administration, the United States has sent a climate report to the United Nations detailing "specific and far-reaching effects" that it says "global warming will inflict" on the American environment.

MORE

Also for the first time -- the White House places "most of the blame for recent global warming on human actions -- mainly the burning of fossil fuels that send heat-trapping greenhouse gases into the atmosphere," the NEW YORK TIMES is planning to report on Monday Page Ones, according to publishing sources.

Many of those people have civil service protection. Unlike, say, Bill Clinton, Bush isn't the sort to file false charges with the FBI to move his own cronies into those offices.

Politics is a full-contact sport. If Bush is not willing to send in people to make the tackles, he will lose the game.

It makes no difference just more rope for the lynching. The mob has taken on a life of its own and will not rest until every republican is strung up.

Wouldn't a report like this be made by the State Department? If true, it sounds like this would be Powell's doing.

Nice new logo Sabertooth. Better than the last one you had, IMHO.

Thanks.

Have I ever told you what Global Warming did to my species about 12,000 years ago?

There were all of these horrible smokestacks around the La Brea Tar Pits, and then the glaciers melted!

Bushlips. We merely expect conservatives to act like conservatives, and if they act like liberals, we will call them on it. That sets us apart from people like you.

Completely agree. The scouring of the White House shouldn't have only been the bathroom sink. There's an old saying, let your enemies come to you... maybe this is a way of flushing them out, and then picking them off one by one. I'm reminded of this exchange in the movie 'Gladiator':

I have been told of a certain sea snake that has a very unusual way of attracting its enemies. It will lie at the bottom of the ocean, as if wounded, and its enemies will swarm around it, but it will lie still. Then its enemies will begin to take little bites of it, but it still remains quite still... So we'll let our enemies come to us and nibble.

And it never occured to you that maybe there is an increase in global warming caused by human activity?

Maybe. The scientific evidence is far from certain, and even most respectable climatologists won't make a bet on this. Given that the last 100,000 years has seen, what, at least two ice ages, the last one ending up burying much of the Northern half of the United States under a huge sheet of ice up to a mile thick, I rather think that if human activity is causing global warming, then it might be a very good thing.

Anyway, if this Uturnabout is true, what's all the fuss about Bush stealing the election? He's just Gore in drag. This should be an interesting thread tomorrow.

It is a pity that this vehicle for another orgy of Bush bashing is bereft of details. But a lack of details has never slowed down those with a fixed opinion. Just why so many without much knowledge about complex and controversial scientific issues feel free to opine without qualification is an mystery to me really. Awareness of ignorance is the first step to knowledge. Some sage wiser than I said that, and that sage is right.

There are so many people on this thread who seem anxious to believe the worst of Bush. I wish they would at least wait until the facts are in.

I agree. I'd only add that it's one thing to acknowlege the cause of global warming -- which really is a science issue, not a political issue -- and it's another thing to sign on to Kyoto -- that's a political issue. I think conservatives have to focus on what the proper *response* should be to global warming and not get dragged into a possibly losing scientific debate on *causes.* ('Course, I've been called all kinds of names for even suggesting this here, but I still believe it's true.)

So in essence, what you are saying is that we can never -- will never -- ever win.

Can you people stop playing the powell or someone else blame game. Bush is the president and these people do not pull stuff like this without his support. Keep sticking your fingers in your ears and not looking at how liberal this president is getting. What will it take for some of you to wakeup. We were sold a rotten conservative bill of goods.

"how global warming was responsible for the FIVE CONSECUTIVE DAYS of record cold in mid-May which devastated hundreds of gardens, along with the apple crop, in east Tennessee."

See my reply above ---

"But the IPCC warned against unpredictable upsets of the atmosphere. "

They have been trying to CUT radiated heat coming from the sun.

It doesn't take cojones to get rid of people who are trying to undermine you! Common sense is all that's needed.

If this is what's happening, it takes stupidity not to throw them out and humiliate them in the process.

C'mon Dubya! Lets see some of that Texas grit! (In other words, quit bending over so often).

Maybe

So why is this issue a matter of political ideology for you and not a matter of science?

I didn't say that. I am not saying that. I refuse to say that.

If you think that the only way to win is to cheat, then you've already lost, period.
