The ugly, stupid tone running through this whole article is that these Somalis - on the very verge of being inconvenienced by the war on terrorism - must now be coddled, cuddled, and suckled by the American people.

What ever happened to the idea that these people are about one thousand percent better off here than they would be in Somalia? What about the fact that we don't owe the Somalis anything other than simple human decency - which is ably demonstrated being present throughout the otherwise hand-wringing tone of the above article?

One of my patients is a Somali woman about 30 years of age. She tells some very interesting stories about being abducted at an early age from Ethiopia by Somalians and being separated from her family. She apparently was raised Christian (if I remember correctly) and was then forced to marry a Muslim Somali and to convert to Islam. She has many memories of rape and sexual abuse and ultimately was somehow able to flee to this country. She is now separated from her family of origin and has a remaining child in Somalia. She has become psychotic discussing some of this material and functions marginally in this community essentially on public assistance.

To complain about the police in Minnesota is hilarious they must have one of the most liberal PD's in the USA.

The point is how would the Police or local Thugs of the Month handle any of those situations in Africa?. More people loose their lives shopping in any big city in most of Africa.

All those "do good" groups bringing in large numbers of one group which then out number homegrown groups of needy Americans, sounds like a recipe for by God trouble to me.

Seriously, it's nice to know you have a similar problem to what we have in the UK. Socialist local governments here in Britain took in Somali refugees. Recently, in my part of London, Fulham, the council built some lovely townhouses, complete with appliances and wooden floors. They put Somali refugees in them. They ripped up the floor so they could burn a campfire in the middle of the living room, and sold off all the valuable appliances and piping in the houses. Then they were moved to new accomodation that wasn't busted up.

Meanwhile, these people also objected to "Blackhawk Down". Well sod them, that was an accurate portrayal. America sent troops to feed them, Britain and America sent food and money, we both let their refugees in and housed them, and they are complaining about Blackhawk Down and some restrictions because of the War on Terror? The next time they starve due to their inability to organise themselves, LET THEM DIE.
