Federal prosecutors said yesterday that "over 39" off-duty Baltimore area police officers were paid by Staples Inc. for security work they never performed, as the first and only figure to be charged in a two-year moonlighting investigation pleaded guilty.

None of the officers - some of whom made as much as $40,000 in the scheme - faces criminal charges, although they could be disciplined internally by police officials in Baltimore and Baltimore County.

Sounds like the Baltimore Police have a little dirt on the U.S. Attorney in Maryland.

This is interesting because the head of the FBI in Maryland is Lynn Hunt,a Democrat appointed political hack and the U.S. Attorney Dibiagio is a Bush appointed U.S. Attorney.

Once again, City of Baltimore employees show up as dirty. In this case, apparently large numbers of the police on the take. Too bad nothing has reached the light of day that would indicate what the officers were being paid (bribed?) to do.

The recipients of the $348,000 reported this income on their tax returns didn't they? They must have, having been paid by checks from a major corporation.

I think the FBI agent that shot the young man in the face was from the FBI field office in Annapolis, Maryland about 20 miles from Baltimore.

I think there was a post here last week about the young man that was shot in the face, he seems to be doing ok and his friends were going to hold a benefit concert to help him with his expenses.

Oh, oh. Now that the police have been caught forging timesheets, the Libertarian Party will call for its legalization. Clearly we are losing the war against forged timesheets.

What I can't figure out is why this would be a federal offense ?

The feds, state, and local law enforcement in Maryland are all corrupt and used primarily to protect the interest of organized crime and corrupt politicians,I don't see how one agency could investigate another agency.

Last year the DOJ was investigating the former U.S. Attorney for Maryland, Lynne Battaglia, her chief of white collar crimes,Dale Kelberman (Dibiagio's close personal acquaintance) and the head of the Maryland State Police, David B. Mitchell for alleged corruption.

Prosecutors in Massachusetts could have claimed jurisdiction over the case because Staples is based in Framingham, Mass., just outside Boston. They declined to do so.

Because they're up to their eyeballs in police and FBI corruption cases in Massachusetts.
