[history]
ITHACA -- The stench of decaying flesh hung heavy in the air as soldiers passed blown-up bunkers and caves.
As they moved down an L-shaped corridor, the stiffened limbs of a Taliban soldier jutted from beneath piles of rock and dust in the sweltering afternoon air.

His parents, Meredith Kusch and John Guckenheimer, attended Oberlin College in Ohio and the University of California at Berkeley during the Vietnam era. They used to joke that they would disown him if he ever joined the military, he said. After attending Ithaca High School his freshman year, he transferred to a boarding school in Bath, Maine.
In other words, he escaped the influence of Ithaca and his pacifist parents.
Coming home was like walking back into a "clueless" society where over-consumption is commonly regarded as the route to happiness, he said.
Well, maybe not totally...this sure sounds like the typical Green party pablum.

I don't believe it. Not allow the presence of noncombatants to prevent them from accomplishing their mission, I'll buy. But I refuse to believe US soldiers were specifically told to intentionally seek out and kill children.

I don't believe [US troops] were told specifically that if there were women and children to kill them, either.
First off, if that were true don't you think somebody other than a local reporter at the Ithaca Journal would have broken THAT story?
Personally, I suspect this kid is starting to fall back under mommy and daddy's hippie spell.

We were told specifically that if there were women and children to kill them Bravo Sierra. Pure, unadulterated bullshit. Who are "We" and told by whom? Inquiring minds want to know, since he is describing a illegal command, which would be a court martial offense.

it was jarring to return home, where contact among strangers is mostly shunned.
Welcome to the armpit of a society your parents and their ilk have created through their failed social engineering.
Now get back to your Fort and work on cleaning the gunk out of your most important weapon, your brain.

ITHACA -- The stench of decaying flesh hung heavy in the air...I assumed this would therefore be a post about a Cornell faculty meeting!

We were told specifically that if there were women and children to kill them." Do we know this guy actually served? With the Viet Nam War there are many who lie and say they were there and then use this as a platform to criticize the effort against communism. Perhaps this is more of the same.

Perhaps due to the exposure at
Fox News and elswhere, the Ithaca soldier quoted as saying that his unit was ordered to kill women and children has
retracted/clarified his statement.
Either we now have a lying Ithaca soldier or a lying Ithaca liberal reporter (or both).
Either is, of course, quite possible in "the City of Evil."

BLL - Thanks for the update.
I've been wondering if Matt Guckenheimer would respond.

Thanks. I didn't believe it for a minute.
But if it were true whoever issued the order should be court-martialed to the maximum extent possible.
