``I think it was more the personal appeal to him than a $10,000 contribution,''
"Personal appeal" must be the RATs new euphemism for campaign bribes, extortion and/or influence buying.

Damaging? It's a trade off. Sure it looks bad but the democrats have been banking on filth and corruption for years and their voters (those who can speak and read English) know what they voted for and don't care about obvious bribes. The trade off? In return for a modestly negative newspaper article, look at the powerful marketing message Davis and his "advisors" have put out there in the market to other would be bribers. Davis doesn't have to solicit bribes; the articles make it cvlear that they will be effective and accepted if paid. Remember, each illgal alien who votes for the democrats gets $2.00 to $5.00 each time he/she votes. Davis needs a LOT of cash.
