Report: Chandra's Family Believes Condit Did It
CNSNEWS.com ^ | 5/29/02 | Susan Jones

Posted on 05/29/2002 5:03:41 AM PDT by kattracks

The Chandra Levy murder remains in Wednesday's headlines, mainly because the "whodunit" has a political link.

According to The Hill , a newspaper covering the Capitol, the Levy family considers Rep. Gary Condit -- a California Democrat -- a suspect in Chandra's murder.

Chandra's family mourned her death on Tuesday, just hours after the D.C. medical examiner ruled that the 24-year-old woman had been murdered. Based on the skeletal remains found in a Washington park, however, the medical examiner could not say exactly how she was killed.

According to The Hill , Chandra's family is now redoubling their efforts to link Chandra's death to Condit, who lost the Democratic primary in March - and therefore, will lose his seat in Congress in January.

Condit is "in seclusion," according to his aides.

A Levy family source told The Hill , "We believe that in her final days on this earth that he [Condit] found out that other people knew about the affair, and we believe that he was trying to break off the relationship."

According to the police investigation, Condit's wife Carolyn was in Washington when Chandra disappeared.

Geragos *promised* Greta that he would ask Gary to release the doctor-info. As far as I know, it still has not happened. It is very simple for MOC's to account for their whereabouts even if every single detail isn't there. For example, if he spent two hours talking with constituents back home on the phone, there are office records of the calls, maybe not their entire duration. There would be notes in a log of his schedule -- and an MOC who is innocently going about the business of the People's Work is capable of providing even the most general of where, when, who. Complete specifics are really not required here to get ol' Gare off the hook -- unless he simply cannot get himself down.

Most murderers are convicted on the basis of circumstantial evidence, which (contrary to popular belief) can be quite strong.

I agree. If anything happened to Anne Marie now, Condit would certainly be a prime suspect and I don't think he wants any more publicity.

My husband has gotten into all these forensics shows of late, New Detectives, etc. They are fascinating to watch, some of the cases you simply say "no way" that they will solve the murder, and then they go step by step to show you, really good stuff. Lots of these shows have guys convicted simply on circumstantial, they just lay out the case piece by piece, let the jury decide if they brought enough to get their suspect.

Billy Martin said yesterday that the police have a great deal of evidence, but he is not at liberty to disclose. I have watched several episodes where guys have been busted on less than we know already here -- let's hope that whoever it was, however this young lady met her demise, the information gets known.

It's a truism in forensics that every murderer leaves a little bit of himself at the crime scene and takes a little bit of the crime scene with him. Physical evidence is very impressive to most juries (exception would be the Simpson jury).

"...she always called him."

It's been reported that she paged him on the order of 28 times in days immediately preceding her disappearance. 28 times. Sure sounds like he was avoiding her -- and thinking about what he was going to do about her. Just before she goes missing, she tells auntie how elated she is about the "wonderful news" she's still keeping secret. I think that "wonderful news" was provided by Condit when he finally came up with a plan and responded to all those pages.

Thannx for the honesty...I agree with you, but I am afraid that many here have already made the judgement that he is QUILTY no matter what evidence (or lack of) shows. And even though he is a Rat, he still deserves to be innocent till proven guilty.

So far as his receiving punishment or execution for any crimes he's committed, I agree- legally, he remains just as innocent as Lee Harvey Oswald, Columbine shooters Harris and Kleybold, or O.J. Simpson.

So far as his remaining a legislator and national leader, much less a person cleared for secret and sensitive material of the highest security classification, and much, much less being a person called upon to make key decisions based on that information, that is another matter entirely.

These months in prison have clearly taken a toll on Philip Giordano. Greying and balding, the former leader clutched a picture of his three children in court today. His wife was visibly absent as legal teams battled over wire tap evidence and whether this case should even be in the Federal court system. Bowman: "I think he was very happy to see his family and make no mistake they are absolutely committed to him and they support him 100 percent." Boman says the long months in jail have been difficult on Giordano, and today he argued whether the federal government has...

I think it likely that if anything happened to Anne Marie now, Condit would be with her very soon, a victim of extrajudicial methods far less constitutional but somewhat more certain.

This is my suspicion for why she left her apartment with no cell phone -- she had already talked with him, she didn't need her phone. No ID -- Gary's Rule. No money, because he either picked her up or she took a cab and gave cabbie a ten, keep the change; Gary would take care of the return trip home. She only took her keys, she needed them to get back into the building.

Exactly. How ironic that the very precautions Condit imposed turned out to be a "signature" for one of his rendezvous with her. These were the only occasions for which she would leave her apartment sans accoutrements!

Both Democrat and Republican were tagged in the sex scandal involving pages. The Republican lost his seat, tossed by the voters ... Democrat Gerry Studds went on to several more terms before voluntarily retiring.

FreeRepublic wasn't up and running then, but I'm sure the comments of disgust would have run same for both. Thanks for your search.

Which is why so many of us don't rule Condit out at this point. Last year, when this was boiling, I recall writing that Condit may very well be innocent of her demise, but he's done way too much to not be considered suspicious, and that if and when Chandra's lifeless corpse turned up, (for it had been too long for me to consider suicide or that she simply ran away), unless there was convincing, DEMONSTRABLE evidence that pointed us away from Condit completely, I would still hold out that he was in some way involved.

That park perp in jail is not convincing or demonstrable, IMO, especially now that I know he took a police polygraph and passed, unlike Condit, who only had some *private* polygraph performed, several questions the police would have asked were not included.

Is he still hiding out, not voting on the Floor? Why would he refrain from attending a session in the House where no one but current and former MOC's have access? The police can't get him, the press can't get him, and gee, he'd still be surrounded by that protective gaggle of CongressGals, wouldn't he??
