Report: Chandra's Family Believes Condit Did It
CNSNEWS.com ^ | 5/29/02 | Susan Jones

The Chandra Levy murder remains in Wednesday's headlines, mainly because the "whodunit" has a political link.

According to The Hill , a newspaper covering the Capitol, the Levy family considers Rep. Gary Condit -- a California Democrat -- a suspect in Chandra's murder.

Chandra's family mourned her death on Tuesday, just hours after the D.C. medical examiner ruled that the 24-year-old woman had been murdered. Based on the skeletal remains found in a Washington park, however, the medical examiner could not say exactly how she was killed.

According to The Hill , Chandra's family is now redoubling their efforts to link Chandra's death to Condit, who lost the Democratic primary in March - and therefore, will lose his seat in Congress in January.

Condit is "in seclusion," according to his aides.

A Levy family source told The Hill , "We believe that in her final days on this earth that he [Condit] found out that other people knew about the affair, and we believe that he was trying to break off the relationship."

According to the police investigation, Condit's wife Carolyn was in Washington when Chandra disappeared.

I remember reading that Chandra wore a large men's watch. There has been some speculation Condit gave her or let her wear the watch, a gift to him from another girlfriend. There was an NBC photo seen by many that showed Chandra wearing such a watch, but NBC will not verify this.

I think condit did have a encounter with Chandra, but not for 'rough sex'. At the time she disappeared, he was avoiding her & she was trying hard to get in touch with him (calling him every 2 hours). She threatened to 'out' their relationship if he didn't give her a comitment of some kind & he killed her to shut her up. Maybe he had help. I hope he did because that is where someone will talk.

That watch had nothing to do with Chandra (i.e. it wasn't a gift exchanged between the two of them) it was a watch given to Condit as a parting gift from another one of his girlfriends....he was dumping the box to try to deflect evidence of the fact that the old girlfriend had verified their relationship to authorities and she said she had given him the Tag Heuer watch as a "booby prize", shall we say?

The watch was given to Condit as a gift from an old mistress....and Condit then gave the watch Chandra!!!!!!! So, why hide the box? (hummmm, is this a clue? Chandra often wore the watch; so where is it? Hummm another clue?

It was a year ago, but wasn't there a watch, bracelet or some piece of jewelry that Condit theoretically gave Chandra? Didn't she show it to her aunt? It wasn't expensive but it seemed Chandra was impressed by it. Levey received a bracelet from Contit as did AMSmith. The driver for Condit has verified the purchase of both items. The watch appears to have been a separate gift to Levey from Condit.

Levy family source told The Hill , "We believe that in her final days on this earth that he [Condit] found out that other people knew about the affair, and we believe that he was trying to break off the relationship."

Other people knew about it? Name some one who knew Chandra that didn't know about it. Political groupies boast about the powerful men they do more than the rock and roll groupies. Chandra found out about Condit from a former groupie who told her about him.

The groupies are proud of their sexual accomplishments. The groupies families are proud of the fact. Just like Monica's family was proud that their daughter had "done" Bill Clinton.

Groupiedom in D.C. is a game and the champ is the girl who does the largest quanity of the most powerful men. A potus is the bullseye. A senator is the next ring and a congressman third. Five congressmen equals one Senator and one president equals 100 senators.

Who was Chandra going to tell that didn't know? Condit's wife? Shel like Clinton's wife new and agreed to him having affairs before they were ever married. Do you think that Hillary just discovered one day that Bill was haveing sex with lots of females? He was doing it before he married Hillary and he made no bones of the fact he would do it after they were married. Men like Condit and Clinton do not hide their sexual activities from wives. IT was a pre-marital agreement. People on this site are amazed when their wives stand behind them when found out. It was part of the deal. The question not what the wife will do if the husband cheats, but what she will do when he is caught. That is spelled out before the wedding. NOT after.

Who else would Chandra tell.. the media? Do any of you wonder why Rather, Brokaw, Jennings and the rest of the main media find nothing wrong with Condits or Clintons behavior? The media has more groupies than the politicians. People rarely find fault with people doing the same exact thing they are doing.

The primary media reaction would be to not believe Chandra. They would not believe that Condit had a groupie that ugly. Most of the Groupies are a lot better looking than Chandra or Monica. Thus the joke that Hillary had best watch her weight. If she puts on another 30 lbs. Bill is going to start hitting on her.

Going after condit was a way for Fox and other cable channels to get ratings.

The only reason the political groupies do congressmen is to get career help. Most likely the Levy family is mad. Chandra put out and Condit did not do anything for her in return. The trick is to get a congressman or senator who wants more..Then ask for the career help in exchange for more.

Chandra was likely did not realize that Condit was not going tot want more. She failed to follow a very old rule.

The worlds oldest profession has just one rule. Collect the payment in advance.

Condit has acted guilty every step of the way.

If we suppose he's innocent of the actual murder, he's still guilty of being a first-class POS who was more concerned about his electability and how bad this would all make him look, than he was about his late paramour.

A lot of his actions can be explained on that basis -- and in many ways, they reflect far worse on him than had he been the actual murderer.

"Condit still deserves the presumption of innocence, so long as our constitution means anything."Yes, but only by the legal/justice system. Individuals are allowed (thankfully) to presume guilt as much and as long as they would like. We all have (varying degrees of) intelligence and are capable of drawing any conclusions we want -- the Constitution doesn't prevent that at all -- a fact that seems to elude most people. Besides, it's fun.

Oh, agreed. He's equally as innocent as Lee Harvey Oswald, Columbine shooters Kleybold and Harris, and O.J. Simpson. And their probable accomplices as well.

It's just that we shouldn't let a simplistic *Get Gary* solution blind us to the very real probibility of the involvement of others in the murder of Chandra Levy, no longer a *mere* disappearance, whether before or after the fact, or as the actual initial perpetrators of it.

Much of what you say, I agree with. However, IIRC, Condit and his wife were married very early, long before he went into politics. Hence, I don't think there was a premeditated pact on their part that he would cat around. What probably happened is that once he got into politics, he started fooling around and when she caught him, they reached an 'understanding': she keeps the lifestyle and the family together, he plays around but keeps it quiet, no scandal or public embarrassment.

I think what happened in this case is Chandra forgot the rules of the game (or thought she was too hot for them to apply to her) and decided she wanted Condit all to herself, without having a clear picture of just what he was involved in. My guess is that she wasn't the one with whom he did the kinky stuff like the 'ridden hard and put away we' Ms. Smith, but just some 'fresh meat' for a few months, a situationally convenient toy. Very sad. When she decided to go for more, someone in the Condit world - I'm not sure if it was Gary, his wife, his kids, his staff, his sex club pals or outside help - decided Chandra knew too much and could cause too much trouble, so she was offed.

Our local radio host interviewed a pathologist, Dr. Michael Bobbin (sp?), this morning. He had several interesting things to say about the Medical Examiner's report. He said that the custom for how much the M.E. would reveal varies from place to place, but that they are careful not to give information which would be helpful to the killer.

I'll bet that was Dr. Michal Baden...he's tops in the field:

"Michael Baden, M. D. interprets the dead. He pays attention to the nuances of bruises and abrasions in ways that few people can. As a leading forensic pathologist of international renown—and one of only about three hundred fulltime forensic pathologists in the country---during his forty-year career he has conducted more than 20,000 autopsies. From 1960 until 1985 he was New York City's medical examiner (ME) and he is currently co-director for the Medicolegal Investigative Unit of the New York State Police. That means he's available 24/7 for consultations, autopsies, and evidence interpretation.

Most people who pay attention to high-profile criminal cases know that Dr. Baden has been both an investigator and expert witness in homicide cases that include Nicole Brown Simpson, the alleged last victim of Albert DeSalvo, "Sunny" von Bulow, Ted Binion, and JonBenet Ramsey. He also served on the Forensic Pathology Panel of the U.S. Congress Select Committee on Assassinations, which investigated the cases of President John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Jr.

The co-author of two books, Unnatural Death: Confessions of a Medical Examiner and Dead Reckoning: The New Science of Catching Killers, Dr. Baden also hosts HBO's Autopsy series. A resident of New York, he's a visiting professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, Albert Einstein School of Medicine, Albany Medical Center, and New York Law School, and also lectures extensively to law enforcement agencies."

...We believe that in her final days on this earth that he [Condit] found out that other people knew about the affair, and we believe that he was trying to break off the relationship." "According to the police investigation, Condit's wife Carolyn was in Washington when Chandra disappeared."

All of which says notihing

According to phone bills, Condit's wife called his Washington apartment, a few days before she showed-up in Washington (a place she hated and almost never visited). Someone answered the phone and talked for a while, to Mrs. Condit. hmmmm, probably nothing...

If Condit needed an alibi, for the afternoon Chandra died, why would his wife, who was alone in his apartment, not be the logical alibi? That would be logical unless they decided to hide the fact of her presence in Washington. Instead he put out the fake alibi of the ABC producer, that ended up really taking place a day later. And no explanation for all of this has been offered. hmmmmm probably nothing...

No, I think that the mention of the fact that Carolyn Condit was in town, was intended to give Condit a motive, as if his wife was in town to demand that he end the affair.

That was certainly a silly question! Of course a Republican is capable of something like this, but its so much more fun to watch a democrat flounder & fail. ;9}

this is the stuff of mystery novels...illicit sex, power, politics, murder so of course it's intriguing. the players are interesting... a congressman, attractive younger woman, media, missing body. it's all there.on the other hand, the blake case is a snoozer about a washed out actor, unappealing murder victim, and unattractive supporting players. it won't have legs. as far as diana's death, there's nothing too fascinating about that. divorcee living a fast life with a saudi playboy who gets into a horrible car accident. no there, there.
