My take on this is that the JS is making yet another attempt to get its readership to generate some level of sympathy for one of its deputized "good guys." All an attempt to give this guy a pass now that he's retired and done "so much good" during his tenure. Barf.

I'm afraid that it's pretty much too late, and the damage is done. I can't see any parent of a Catholic teenage boy EVER looking at any priest with the trust that was given in the past.

I wonder when Weakland says "I have never abused anyone.", what does he think sexual perversion of any sort is? In Christian teaching isn't such conduct by its nature the abuse of another person made in the image of God, whether consensual or not?
