Thomas Beller is the scruffy, scattered personification of West Village cool. He's written a pair of acclaimed books of fiction, runs an avant-garde literary magazine, and edits a website, which publishes true stories set all over the city's five boroughs and has tapped into the zeitgeist in a way that few media outlets have done since Sept. 11.
His hair is often a mess, and his unbuttoned collar flapped in the spring breeze Thursday as he talked about being a New Yorker put, once again, on "terror alert" by his government.
