After the service, I went up to thank then-Senator Ashcroft for his help in getting a particular piece of legislation through the Senate. (I can't remember what this legislation was, however.) He thanked me for his support, and shook my hand. Warm smile, very friendly. It was my understanding that he had sought out our church, since he was (is?) a member of the Assemblies of G-d. I was very distressed that our congregation was going ga-ga over the presence of Jeffords...a man who made no bones about his outright support of abortion. Church...where is your spirit of discernment? You do NOT applaud evil.
