Thanks for giving the party affiliation. This is the first mention of it on this page -- none in the article.

If he were a Republican, the first mention of his name probably would have been followed by "(R-NJ)", or the second reference to him might have been "the conservative/Republican Senator" or something similar to smear his entire party. But, since he's a democrat, his party gets another pass.
