To: Question_Assumptions
In the first book they mentioned the election of the Queen. I don't recall the lines in the movie though.

It makes a lot of sense to have a young Queen with loyal doubles willing to die for her if the position is hereditary. It's pretty stupid if the Queen is supposed to be elected. I suppose that Leia was "elected" to be a "Princess", too? Again, it makes sense for Leia to be a "Princess" if her mother was a hereditary "Queen" -- or should I simply assume that all titles of nobility are elected? Perhaps the Empire wasn't all that bad, either. Maybe the people elected the Emperor, too?

The Poles used to elect their king. Then they wised up and were strongly encouraged to embrace socialism. Wacky world, ain't it?
