You: Not if you're Catholic. So long as we don't see the soul as arising from an evolutionary process, evolution, old earth etc. is acceptable."
Gould was not shy about his atheism. He didn't believe in Intelligent Design, God or any other kind of "Supreme Being". I think we can both figure out this doesn't put Gould in a good situation.
I am not a Catholic but a Christian who takes the Word of God to heart. When a human life is created is has a soul. Of course ALL life is God's handiwork. When we die our soul will go elsewhere and out physical body will return to dust - just as it says in the Bible. To suggest that human life "evolved" and our soul didn't makes no sense since human life has a soul from the beginning. From human life springs a soul. To suggest otherwise, that a soul doesn't evolve and a "life" does makes absolutely no sense since the two start out as one. The Bible verifies this fact.
I'd sure love to know how you think a soul "evolved". Better yet, don't humor me. I tire easily of nonsense.
To deny God created ALL we see and don't see, denies Him. Either He did create all or He didn't. There is no "middle road". It's also like giving the credit of a piece of art to the wrong author - apes. It is God that deserves all the credit.
We are made in HIS image, not an ape as touted by evolutionist who make no bones about it that that don't believe in God. This is not a coincidence. It is the premise of evolution.
Again suggested that we "evolved" from apes, insults God as well as calling Him a liar. The Greek and Hebrew bear out that all we see and don't see were created in SEVEN 24 hour long days - not billions of years. The Judeo Christian God, wasn't an ape and wasn't so stupid as to take billions of years to create everything. SO the idea of an "old earth" could not possibly be true when compared to what God says in the Bible.
Believe what you wish but understand it makes a mockery of God and calls Him a liar. Belief in Him is REQUIRED for eternal life and that includes taking to heart what is said about how we and all that is on this earth was created. Hopefully, Catholic or otherwise John 3:16 still applies.
and that many problems in science cannot be conceptualized correctly---
unless one escapes the intellectual... straitjacket---of prevailing scientific mythologies."
