A pity your friend didn't point out the origin of the "eye" question - that would be Charles Darwin himself, chapter 6 of On The Origin Of Species.

Wrong. The question of the eye was around long before he published. He knew he had to give an answer to it. His answer was total rhetoric like the rest of the Origins. He did not prove its descent, there is no proof of it even now. This is his explanation:

He who will go thus far, if he find on finishing this treatise that large bodies of facts, otherwise inexplicable, can be explained by the theory of descent, ought not to hesitate to go further, and to admit that a structure even as perfect as the eye of an eagle might be formed by natural selection, although in this case he does not know any of the transitional grades. His reason ought to conquer his imagination; though I have felt the difficulty far too keenly to be surprised at any degree of hesitation in extending the principle of natural selection to such startling lengths.

He was even more slippery than Clinton!

Pardon me, but in my browser everything is blue following your post #196. I don't know exactly why but that's how it is (no color blindness involved).

Now he KNOWS the truth.....May he find mercy and peace.

Yes. Now he knows the truth.

However, barring a deathbed conversion to Christ, I know of know Scriptural reason why this inveterate opponent of Scriptural truth should expect to receive mercy.

By rejecting Christ, one rejects the sole means for finding divine mercy, no?

Simply spelling out the facts of what he has done is not judging.

Ok, Stephen Jay Gould has harmed me in a tiny way!

In the evenings before we go to sleep, my wife and I often read our books. The simple weight of "The Structure of Evolutionary Theory", and it's hard bound 1433 pages, does cause physical pain when propped upon my chest.

However, may God bless Stephen for opening up my mind to the basic research he has provided.

His death today is a personal loss, since I have enjoyed what he attempted to teach. Are his theories totally correct? Probably not, but the raw data that he submitted will be researched for years to come.

It is sundown, dusk on the day of Dr. Goulds passing...he he has already recieved his judgement and is watching the Boston Red Sox tonight in heaven with the Bambino in his 1915 pitchers jersey IF he asked for forgiveness for his sins before his death.

Or he is burning in hell asking himself why did he not open his mind to the possibility of God's forgiveness.

And that is the fastest way to win non-believers souls-is to tell the truth about what faces a man like the Professor.

My 'mind' has been opened to Gould's teachings in several forums and while he may be an amiable man to some and we debate his scholarly brilliance, the ledger will not be wiped clean of his continual staining of the Christian faith.

May God have mercy upon his family.

What "arguments for" are there?? What "logic"?? What "evidence"??

I rest my case.

Not precisely. It is certainly wrong to suggest that evolution selects against cooperation. You're the one equating cooperation with morality. However, cooperation is not an evolutionary absolute, either. And at any rate, if cooperation=morality, Gengis Khan, Atilla the Hun, or Nazi Germany were highly moral groups of folks.

Morality is a form of cooperation, but it evolved to help individual groups of humans. It can be applied between groups of humans, but that is not required.

For example, codebreaker believes that only creationists are going to heaven. In fact, he revels in his fantasy of Gould burning in hell. Yet, he would be horrified by the idea of himself burning in hell, with his skin blistering and flesh melting for all time. He can do this because he only applies his morality to his group of people, the creationists. Anything is ok for anyone else. This is exactly what Genghis or Hitler did. Morality, in humans, only seems to apply to the group that you are in.

Is this good, or just? No. It is just true.

our hopes for our eternal destiny

I can’t decide which is worse: someone greedy for infinite money, or someone greedy for infinite time.

A liar knows that to lie successfully it helps if the lie is something people want to believe is true. My observation of you is that you are pretty whacked out by this Jesus fairy tale.

We’ve all met ass kissers in our lives and most of us dislike their behavior. If there is a God, what makes you think he wants to spend eternity with all the world's ass kissers? Is God so shallow he gets off on flattery from self-serving cowards?

It’s nice to be alive. Why not enjoy the time you were given rather than obsess about earning infinitely more?

Actually, I think Gould was an athiest. Too bad. I enjoyed two of his books. Obviously, his cancer was worse than what was reported in the newspapers for the last few years.

...if I remember my bible correctly, God wants all men to be saved and come into his grace, so what does that say about the ones getting their jollies about Gould's death and suposed casting into the pit?

The often overused "Judge not, lest ye be judged" scripture is referring to this just kind of eternal, condemnatory judgement.

Several here are playing with the hot stuff.
