Your view of the nature and function of the church is far different than mine. The church should neither judge nor reject nor punish, in my view, but should show understanding, forgiveness, acceptance, love and support. I have to admit it's not my view-- have you actually seen one like that? It must have a terrible time maintaining order among its members and making decisions. It must be loosely structured-- is there any attendance requirement? I heard someone refer to the "Church of the Great Outdoors"-- that's about the only one I can think of, except ones' perspective could defy the logic of neither judge nor reject nor punish, etc.

I think punishment and judgement are best left to the special instruments of society designed for that specific purpose: the courts and law enforcement. I also think that the church, as exemplified by Christ's life and words, should foster the best of the human spirit through love, acdeptance and support. Admittedly, there are few, on a worldwide basis, denominations that do this. But, on a local level, there are many churches that provide virtually non-contingent love and support--There are some here in my community, including the Catholic churches and some protestant ones. It seems to depend upon the congregation and the pastor.
