If I remember correctly from my Playboy Advisor days, there was a time when Russian vodka had impurities in them which could be remedied by dropping a piece of toast in the drink to absorb the unwanted impurities. And thus the term, "to toast".
Too much alcohol causes hypoxia, (lack of oxygen to the brain causes all sorts of motor and cognitive dissonance)
